Director of the Provincial Library Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang said that the 2025 "Painting from books using free materials" contest was launched in March 2025. With the theme "The imprint of time through the pages of books", the contest aims to arouse patriotism, create a healthy playground to encourage creativity and develop students' artistic skills. At the same time, through their works, students can express their feelings, express national pride and the brilliant development achievements of Vietnam. "The organizing committee carefully prepared from the construction of rules, forms and regulations for participating in the contest. Contestants promoted their strengths and creativity, expressing their works with many diverse perspectives...", Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang shared.
538 works from contestants who are students at all levels in the province truly reflect their perception of historical figures, events and development achievements of An Giang in particular and the country in general. Duong Huynh Uyen Lan - student of class 8A1, Thanh My Tay Secondary School, Thanh My Tay commune shared: "It took me about 1 month from the time I came up with the idea until I completed the portrait of Ngo Quyen using rice grains. During the process, the most difficult thing was how to draw a soulful and majestic character of the king. This is a work that I am very determined and love."
Through two preliminary and final rounds, the jury selected 58 best works (48 winning works and 10 exhibition works). Mr. Bui Quang Vinh - former Chairman of the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of An Giang province (old), Head of the jury of the contest said: "The judging criteria are not only based on drawing techniques but also on the ideas, messages and ability to convey emotions of each painting. The works are expressed using recycled materials, environmentally friendly materials combined with crayons, colored pencils, markers, watercolors, pigments, oil paints... rich in creativity under the skillful hands of the contestants".
As a result, contestant Tran Do Nhu Ngoc - a student of class 4A, Chi Lang "B" Primary School, Chi Lang Ward won first prize at the primary level with the work "The beauty of new energy sources in my homeland". Contestant Tran Vo Van Khanh - a student of class 7A6, Binh Khanh Secondary School, Binh Duc Ward, won first prize at the secondary level with the work "Hai Ba Trung". Contestant Ngo Huu Nguyen - a student of class 11A9, Tran Van Thanh High School, Chau Phu Commune, won first prize at the high school level with the work "Hai Ba Trung against foreign invaders"... Contestant Tran Vo Van Khanh shared: "I take advantage of my free time to practice my drawing skills every day. Whether it is a painting for a contest or just to keep as a souvenir, I always put all my emotions into each drawing. I am very happy that my work "Hai Ba Trung" won first prize at this year's contest".
