Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dang Binh rejoices with the people of Nam Lang village on the National Great Unity Day

Returning to Nam Lang village, Duc Van commune on a day in early November, when people had just finished harvesting their crops, happily celebrating Tet with new rice and enjoying the National Unity Day. The road leading to Khau Pan village has been paved for a long time, on both sides of the road are vast pine forests and chestnut gardens ready for harvest. Khau Pan village in Nam Lang village of Duc Van commune is the border of Duc Van commune and Thuong Quan commune, previously very wild, with few people living there. Currently, Nam Lang village has 34 households with 118 people. In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, the lives of the people here have changed a lot. Up to now, new rural traffic routes have been invested in and built to effectively serve the travel, economic development, and exploitation of planted forests.

Nam Lang village does not have much rice-growing land, only more than 3 hectares, but has a large natural land area. Over the past years, implementing the Party and State's policy on forest development to cover bare land and hills, people have actively participated in sustainable forest planting and have brought about economic efficiency. With the goal of making Nam Lang village a bright spot of Duc Van commune, the locality has focused on economic development and building a cultural life. Many crops with high economic value such as cinnamon, star anise, and chestnut trees have been planted, developed and started to be harvested by the people. In particular, chestnut trees of Hop Phat Cooperative have been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product at the provincial level, bringing a good income to the people in the village.

Implementing the movement "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", the people of Nam Lang village actively contributed their efforts and donated land to build roads. This year, the whole village has 31/34 households achieving the title of Cultural Family, accounting for over 91%; 100% of households in the village have access to grid electricity. The village has built a spacious cultural house, which is the place to hold village meetings and where cultural and spiritual activities take place for the people.

Right in the center of the village, Khau Pan Relic was invested in construction with a spacious campus including a waiting room, engraved stele, roads around the relic... becoming a traditional living place for many generations.

According to historical records, after studying in China and the Soviet Union, introduced by Nguyen Ai Quoc, in February 1931, Comrade Phung Chi Kien went to study at the Oriental University of the Communist International. But when he arrived in Manchuria, he was imprisoned by the Japanese fascists for nearly a year. After being released from prison, he continued to study in the Soviet Union. With great determination, he tried his best to study Marxist-Leninist theory and researched the Soviet people's experiences in fighting, defending and building the country to later apply to the situation in Vietnam.

In early 1934, Comrade Phung Chi Kien returned to Hong Kong (China) to join the Overseas Leadership Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party headed by Comrade Le Hong Phong. At the First National Congress of the Party held in Macau (March 1935), he was elected to the Party Central Committee and appointed as a member of the Party's Standing Committee.

After his revolutionary activities, when he returned to Vietnam and then to China, on January 28, 1941, Phung Chi Kien followed Uncle Ho to Pac Bo, Cao Bang province. Here, he worked alongside Uncle Ho and made an important contribution to the construction and protection of the base area. He actively participated in organizing training courses for Viet Minh cadres in Cao Bang, Bac Kan , Lang Son and other lowland provinces.

At the 8th Party Central Committee Conference (May 1941), comrade Phung Chi Kien continued to be a member of the Party Central Committee, was assigned to be in charge of military affairs , directly commanding the Bac Son - Vo Nhai base area and the first Vietnam National Salvation Army platoon.

On August 19, 1941, the army led by Comrade Phung Chi Kien and Luong Van Tri, Standing Committee Member of the Northern Regional Party Committee, passed through Po Kep (Na Ri District, Bac Kan) and was ambushed by the enemy but the unit escaped. On August 21, the unit was ambushed again in Bang Duc Commune. The reactionary district forces here mobilized soldiers to close the encirclement. Comrade Luong Van Tri was wounded, arrested and imprisoned in Cao Bang and died in prison. Despite being seriously wounded, Comrade Phung Chi Kien still held his gun tightly, shooting at the enemy to help his comrades escape the encirclement. After firing the last bullet, he fell into the enemy's hands. On August 22, 1941, the enemy beheaded him and planted his head at the head of Ngan Son Bridge in an attempt to intimidate the local cadres and people. The heroic sacrifice of comrade Phung Chi Kien was a great loss for the Party and the revolutionary movement, but it further fueled hatred for the enemy, revolutionary spirit, and determination to take power into the hands of the people.

Comrade Phung Chi Kien heroically sacrificed himself, leaving behind an indomitable heroic example of a revolutionary soldier. He was a revolutionary predecessor, a senior cadre of the Party assigned by Uncle Ho and the Central Committee to be in charge of the military first. Comrade Phung Chi Kien was posthumously promoted to the rank of general by Uncle Ho on July 23, 1947, and in 1994 was awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Medal by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

To commemorate the merits of martyr Phung Chi Kien, Khau Pan relic - where comrade Phung Chi Kien sacrificed his life - has been invested in and restored to educate the next generation about tradition. Many agencies and units have chosen it as a place for thematic activities to educate the tradition for cadres, civil servants and public employees. Party cells organize to admit party members, Youth Union organizes to admit union members...

Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ngan Son district held activities of the Young Theory Club at Khau Pan historical site.

Visiting Khau Pan relic, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dang Binh expressed his joy because the relic was built spaciously, with a clean and beautiful campus. He was even happier because he saw the spirit of solidarity and efforts to develop the economy and build new rural areas of the people of Nam Lang village. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that the people in the village will continue to promote the tradition of patriotic loyalty of Comrade Phung Chi Kien, build a truly united and strong community, strive to develop, reduce poor households, increase well-off households and strive to become rich, contributing to the homeland and to Bac Kan province./.
