Why do international investment funds pour billions of dollars into the innovation sector in Vietnam?

The information was announced by Ms. Kim Ngoc Thanh Nga, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), Ministry of Finance - at the information meeting of the Vietnam Innovation Investment Forum 2025 (VIPC Summit 2025), organized by NIC in coordination with the Vietnam Private Equity Development Organization (VPCA), Golden Gate Ventures Investment Fund, organized by Ventures on April 15 in Hanoi.

According to the organizers, VIPC Summit 2025 will take place on April 22 with the theme of promoting innovation, unlocking private capital, and bringing Vietnam into an era of growth.

This year’s forum will attract more than 1,000 delegates, including representatives of more than 200 investment funds and global financial corporations. Notably, many large investment funds will appear at the forum, such as: CDH Investments, Partech Ventures, Temasek, Do Ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, Vina Capital, Mekong Capital, etc.

Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, Director of NIC, said that this year's forum aims to unlock private capital to develop a complete and effective ecosystem, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to achieving the GDP growth target of 8% in 2025, and double-digit growth in the coming years.

Within the framework of VIPC Summit 2025, there will be discussions on Vietnam's vision, policies, and strategic orientations on innovation and attracting private investment, in-depth seminars with many global investment funds, international experts on scaling strategies, capital calling, solutions to promote IPOs, and connecting domestic and foreign partners.

At this forum, NIC will announce the Vietnam Innovation and Technology Investment Report 2025.

Mr. Huy added that in 2024, nearly 100 investment funds "poured capital" into Vietnamese technology startups, with a total capital of about 529 million USD, down 17% compared to the previous year.

"And compared to the 35% decrease in total global venture capital investment, the 17% decrease shows that the Vietnamese market is still resilient in the face of many challenges in the capital market," Mr. Huy emphasized.

Talking about the attraction of investment from the innovation sector in Vietnam, Mr. Vinnie Lauria, member of the board of the Vietnam Private Equity Development Organization (VPCA), founder of Golden Gate Ventures Fund - shared that the fund is managing capital of 300 million USD, has invested in many startups in Vietnam. Golden Gate Ventures aims to make Vietnam a market that accounts for 1/3 of the fund's investment capital, equivalent to 100 million USD in the near future.

Mr. Vinnie Lauria also said that VPCA wants to connect fragmented elements in the Vietnamese innovation ecosystem such as investors, funds, and representatives of state management agencies. VPCA believes that Vietnam is not a market worth watching but a place where funds commit to long-term investment.

According to Mr. Vinnie Lauria, VPCA wants to make Vietnam a leading country in attracting private investment, with the goal of attracting 35 billion USD in capital into the innovation sector by 2035, through in-depth data, advanced standards and close cooperation between the Government, founders and investors. This investment is expected to last from 10-12 years.
