The decision to postpone the launch of the new generation Kia Sorento until the end of 2027 was made in the context that the current version - the MQ4 generation launched since 2020 - is still maintaining impressive global sales and continuing to hold its position as one of the best-selling mid-size SUVs of the Korean automaker.
According to Woopa TV, instead of rushing to replace a successful product, KIA chose to extend the life cycle of the MQ4 to maximize its market potential. This not only helps the company meet the increasing demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions but also avoids negatively affecting sales when the MQ4 is still at the peak of its production cycle.

At the same time, KIA has more time to perfect the technology on the MQ5, especially the electrified powertrain and new infotainment system. Although launched a year later than originally planned, the Sorento MQ5 is still expected to be a worthy leap forward.
The new SUV will feature a design inspired by the flagship EV9 electric vehicle, with vertical LED headlights, modern “Starmap” graphic taillights, a fully digital cockpit with two 12.3-inch curved screens and the next-generation Pleos OS. It will be available with hybrid and 1.6-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid engines, with an all-electric range of up to 100 kilometers. Higher-end versions will also feature ventilated second-row seats and more luxurious interior materials.
KIA plans to introduce the MQ5 in the Korean market in late 2027, before launching in the US and Europe in early 2028. The selling price is expected to increase by about 5–6 million won (equivalent to 4,000–5,000 USD) compared to the MQ4, due to upgrades in size, technology and electrified powertrain.
