At the “AI Everywhere” event, Intel officially launched the 5th Generation Intel Xeon processors (codenamed Emerald Rapids). Intel’s new product line delivers higher performance per watt and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) when running important applications in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing (HPC), networking, storage, databases, and security.

These new processors are both software and platform compatible with the 4th Generation Intel Xeon processor family, allowing businesses to upgrade and maximize the return on their infrastructure investments while minimizing costs and carbon emissions.

With AI accelerators built into every core, 5th Gen Xeon processors are capable of running complex AI applications from end to end without the need for additional discrete accelerators. Specifically, 5th Gen Xeon delivers 42% higher inference performance and 100 milliseconds less latency on large language models with less than 20 billion parameters.

Compared to the previous generation of Xeons, the new processors deliver an average of 21 percent higher performance for common computing tasks and 36 percent higher average performance per watt when running enterprise applications. Businesses implementing a five-year refresh cycle or upgrading from older generations can reduce TCO by up to 77 percent.

“Through long-term collaboration with our customers, partners, and developer ecosystem, we are introducing 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors on a proven platform that enables businesses to rapidly adopt and scale at a lower total cost of ownership,” said Sandra Rivera, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Center and AI Group.
