[Video] 62 critical illnesses treated beyond the prescribed level are still covered 100% by health insurance

From July 1, 2025, people with 62 rare and serious diseases will be allowed to go to a different hospital without a referral letter and will have 100% of the costs covered by the Health Insurance Fund (HIF) according to regulations.

This list of 62 diseases includes: infectious diseases, cancers, metabolic disorders, lysosomal storage disorders, neurological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, skin diseases, congenital malformations, anti-tuberculosis drug resistance, war sequelae and organ transplant cases.

The new policy in the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Health Insurance aims to reduce procedures, facilitate timely access to specialized treatment for seriously ill patients, and help classify diseases reasonably and balance the Health Insurance Fund.

Patients can go to a higher-level hospital for examination. If the diagnosis is on the list, they will enjoy health insurance benefits from the first examination. However, health insurance does not cover services not on the list.
