On May 23 in Sekong province, Southern Laos, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Pakse and the Sekong provincial government jointly organized the Trade, Investment and Tourism Promotion Forum: Promoting the East-West Economic Corridor and the Trade and Tourism Fair 2025.
This is an activity to promote investment, tourism , economic and trade cooperation between localities of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, organized annually by the Consulate General. This year, the event was held in Sekong province.
The forum was held in person and online, with the participation of representatives from 19 provinces and cities of Vietnam; 4 provinces of Southern Laos including Champasak, Sekong, Salavanh and Attapeu; Ubon Ratchathani province of Thailand; representatives of the Vietnam Business Association in Japan and Southern Laos; representatives of enterprises from the 3 countries of Vietnam-Laos-Thailand.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Ms. Ta Phuong Dung, Consul General of Vietnam in Pakse, emphasized the significance of the event to realize the strategic vision in building a development space between the three countries, towards sustainable development, forming a development space between the provinces of Southern Laos, Ubon Ratchathini and 19 provinces and cities of Vietnam.
Consul General Ta Phuong Dung affirmed that the forum is an opportunity for localities and businesses of the three countries to connect, survey investment opportunities in the southern provinces of Laos, increase information, promote potentials and strengths in the fields of trade, investment and tourism, in order to build cooperation programs suitable to the needs and strengths of each country's locality, contributing to the socio-economic development of localities on the East-West Economic Corridor.
Also at the forum, Mr. Leklay Sivilay, Secretary and Governor of Sekong Province, said that this forum was held in the context of people from Laos, Vietnam and Thailand celebrating important holidays of the three countries in 2025.
He emphasized that the Forum is of great significance in promoting the potential of localities in Southern Laos in general, Sekong province in particular, in strengthening connections with localities in Vietnam and Ubon Ratchathani province (Thailand), opening up investment cooperation opportunities for businesses of the three countries and creating favorable conditions for localities to research and learn about each other's strengths, potentials and policies, thereby enhancing investment cooperation opportunities in Sekong province as well as the provinces of Southern Laos.
At the forum, delegates from several provinces and cities of Vietnam and provinces of Laos and Thailand took turns presenting and introducing their localities' potential, strengths, and preferential policies to attract investment, all of which presented a picture of the sub-region with strategic connections in economics, agriculture , logistics, and tourism.
In addition, the delegates also pointed out some difficulties and limitations and proposed cooperation contents in the fields of trade and tourism; discussed and agreed on orientations and solutions to improve cooperation efficiency, promote tourism, trade and investment promotion activities on the East-West Economic Corridor in accordance with the needs and strengths of each locality.
Within the framework of the event, in the afternoon of the same day, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Pakse coordinated with the Sekong provincial government to organize the 2025 Trade and Tourism Fair with the participation of 47 booths, including 12 Vietnamese booths, 34 Lao booths and 1 Thai booth.
The fair is an opportunity for businesses from the three countries to meet, exchange, connect trade, seek opportunities for cooperation, investment and market expansion, and connect tourism routes; at the same time, vividly demonstrate the friendly and cooperative relationship between the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
This is also an important opportunity for businesses and localities of the three countries to promote and introduce cultural and tourism products; OCOP and ODOP agricultural products, contributing to promoting trade exchange and contributing to the socio-economic development of the localities.
