Recently, BTEC FPT British College organized a seminar titled "Solutions for Human Resource Development in the Wave of Microchip Investment in Vietnam." The seminar attracted the attention of many experts and businesses in the industry. Simultaneously, BTEC FPT officially announced its membership in the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Microchip Technology Association (HSIA).

The workshop was attended by Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh - Member of the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Microchip Technology Association, and also Senior Director of Technical Applications at Synopsys Vietnam; Mr. Le Huynh Lan - General Director of Mantis Vietnam Corporation; Mr. Vu Chi Thanh - Principal of FPT Polytechnic College - BTEC FPT; and Dr. Nguyen Minh Son - Head of the Computer Engineering Department, University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

At the workshop, experts and representatives from participating organizations contributed diverse perspectives and shared insights on training pathways and development needs in the semiconductor industry amidst the strong wave of investment in Vietnamese integrated circuits.

Representatives from semiconductor companies believe that Vietnam has two strengths for participating in this industry: design and packaging. The design sector requires a large workforce, directly attracting FDI businesses that are relocating to Vietnam. As the semiconductor industry develops to a certain point, Vietnam will need to train more skilled personnel and professional engineers to position the country's strengths within the semiconductor value chain ecosystem.

“To develop this field, training institutions need to develop a school-business ecosystem. It can be said that the link between training institutions and businesses plays a crucial role in updating training programs, as well as providing students with internship and practical training opportunities so they are not overwhelmed when starting their jobs,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh, a member of the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Microchip Technology Association.

Mr. Vu Chi Thanh, Principal of FPT Polytechnic College, believes that to fully utilize Vietnam's potential, it is necessary to focus on developing high-quality human resources to prepare for the new wave of investment in semiconductors in Vietnam. "As the first college to offer a semiconductor technology program, BTEC FPT has been striving to anticipate the trend of training and developing human resources in a field considered the 'backbone' of the technology era," Mr. Thanh stated.

To rapidly increase the quantity and quality of semiconductor workforce, experts suggest that the government needs specific policies and regulations to encourage businesses to invest in research and development of semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Furthermore, semiconductor training institutions should strengthen cooperation with international businesses and corporations operating in the semiconductor sector to ensure that training and research in semiconductor technology are updated with new technologies and that training programs are as relevant to real-world applications as possible.

Besides the workshop on solutions for developing high-quality human resources in the face of foreign investment in the semiconductor industry, the event also included a ceremony to officially admit BTEC FPT as a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Technology Association.

The Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Technology Association, established in 2013, brings together reputable experts and businesses in the semiconductor field and facilitates connections between the government and domestic and international scientists and businesses in the semiconductor integrated circuit technology sector. This opens opportunities for BTEC FPT to collaborate with organizations operating in research, training, dissemination, application, production, business, and services in the semiconductor integrated circuit industry in Ho Chi Minh City. The goal is to support each other in training, research, experience exchange, and improving professional knowledge in the semiconductor integrated circuit industry, contributing to the achievement of scientific and technological development goals.
