Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed the above viewpoint when delivering the opening speech at the 4th Global Conference on Food Systems (GFS) in Hanoi on the morning of April 24.

The above viewpoint shows that Vietnam wishes to continue contributing to the international community's common efforts in addressing global food security challenges, and hopes that countries will increase cooperation and participate responsibly in this issue.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), countries around the world are concerned about the risk of food insecurity due to the impacts of climate change, loss of biodiversity, emerging pandemics including COVID-19, conflicts and rising prices of raw materials for food production.

FAO said hunger is still on the rise, with the number of people affected reaching 828 million in 2021. In the Asia-Pacific region, the realization of the sustainable development goals is expected to be achieved only in 2065, 3.5 decades later than originally planned.

Faced with the above situation, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang stated that the issue has become more urgent than ever and that now and no other time, we must act immediately to protect the planet - the common home of all of us and future generations.

Mr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of FAO, also said that the current context requires an urgent transformation of the food security system towards a more effective, comprehensive, flexible and sustainable direction. To do this, all countries must join hands.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that in March, the Vietnamese Government issued the National Action Plan for Transforming the Food Safety System by 2030 with the goal of becoming a country that produces and supplies transparent, responsible, and sustainable food, as Vietnam committed to at the UN Summit on the Food Safety System in 2021.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his sincere thanks and wished to continue receiving support and assistance for Vietnam from UN organizations, especially the Sustainable Development Goals Program, the international community, donors, research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and businesses.
