Cong Thuong Newspaper had an interview with Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri - Marketing Executive Director, Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company ( Vinamilk ) to better understand the creative breakthroughs during the 5 decades of development of the Vietnamese National Brand Vinamilk.

The most potential milk brand in the world

PV: Sir, at the Kien Quoc Startup space deployed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the framework of the National Achievement Exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2, what message does Vinamilk want to convey to the public?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: This exhibition is a very special event, marking the 80-year journey of national history and also coinciding with the occasion when Vinamilk is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary of establishment and development. We bring an exhibition space with the theme "Vinamilk 50 years of pioneering Vietnam - Reaching the world ".

This message reflects the aspirations of Vinamilk as well as Vietnamese private enterprises: to constantly innovate, affirming their role in the journey of national development and reaching international standards. The exhibition not only introduces outstanding achievements but also brings to the public the experience of breakthroughs in modern milk production technology, including the "fresh lock" double vacuum technology - successfully applied by Vinamilk for the first time in Vietnam, helping to preserve the pure flavor and nutritional value from farm to table.

PV: Looking back on the 50-year journey, how do you evaluate Vinamilk's development mission?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: Vinamilk's journey is closely linked to the modern history of the country. Founded in 1976, from almost nothing, Vinamilk has become a national milk brand, present in most Vietnamese families. We define our mission as "Caring for people with quality nutritional products that meet international standards".

Over nearly half a century, Vinamilk has not only maintained its No. 1 position in Vietnam but has also expanded to the world. Currently, our products are present in 65 countries and territories, contributing to putting Vietnamese brands on the global map. On the occasion of the country's 80th National Day, Vinamilk was honored to be ranked by Brand Finance - the world's prestigious brand valuation organization - as the most potential milk brand in the world, with the highest rating of AAA+. This is the result of a persistent strategy, affirming the position of Vietnamese brands in the global food industry.

PV: So, in your opinion, what are the factors that help Vinamilk gain international recognition?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: There are three key factors that help Vinamilk gain international recognition. First, we always put quality first. For three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025, Vinamilk has passed more than 400 rigorous tests to be granted Clean Label certification for fresh milk by the Clean Label Project (USA), the first time in the world that a fresh milk product has achieved this title.

At the same time, Vinamilk's baby milk powder is also the first product in Asia to receive the Purity Award, the world's most rigorous award to date for safety and transparency in production conditions and product quality, including parameters on the purity of raw materials used to produce products for children. This is proof of Vinamilk's commitment to always bring the best to consumers according to international standards.

Second, Vinamilk is constantly innovating. In 2024 alone, we will introduce 125 new products - on average one product every two days. These products apply advanced technology that first appeared in Vietnam, such as the vacuum technology for Green Farm fresh milk that helps eliminate nearly 50% of free oxygen radicals, preserving the natural flavor; or the addition of 6 types of HMO to infant formula, which accounts for 58% of the total amount of HMO in breast milk, helping to increase resistance and digestion for young children.

Third, Vinamilk is determined to develop sustainably. We are implementing the Net Zero 2050 roadmap, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2027, 55% by 2035 and move towards net zero emissions by 2050. Currently, two Vinamilk factories and one farm have achieved carbon neutral certification according to the international standard PAS 2060:2014. Vinamilk is also a pioneer in applying regenerative agriculture, conserving resources and protecting the environment, which is an increasingly important factor for global consumers.

Vietnamese nutrition – international quality

PV: Can you share more about the new technologies that have created Vinamilk's unique mark?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: Vinamilk products not only have changed packaging, flavors, adjusted formulas to add new ingredients, but also have a very high level of "innovation - creativity" such as: the first application of Swedish microfiltration technology for Green Farm fresh milk with high protein and no lactose, allowing precise adjustment of the ratio of the main ingredients of the milk.

Another important breakthrough of Vinamilk is that it is the first dairy company in Vietnam to successfully add 6HMO to the formula milk products Optimum Gold & Optimum Colos. Or with the Green Farm sterilized fresh milk product, in addition to the dual vacuum technology "fresh lock", we also apply the Green Farm ecological farm model, with a cow care regime using a menu of 20 types of grass and flowers.

This is the foundation for creating a premium fresh milk line that has won many international awards such as the Monde Selection Gold Award, Superior Taste Award and Clean Label Project certification.

The above examples are important steps for Vinamilk in bringing global nutritional science achievements closer to Vietnamese consumers.

PV: Besides products, how has Vinamilk brand image been built in the international market?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: We focus on global marketing strategies, but still maintain the Vietnamese brand identity. Export activities in recent years have been strongly promoted by Vinamilk, not only contributing positively to the company's revenue but also building and promoting the national milk brand to the world. Vinamilk is present at many major fairs and exhibitions around the world, carrying the message "Vietnamese nutrition - international quality".

Since the start of exporting in 1997, Vinamilk's products have been exported to 65 international markets, with a total cumulative export turnover exceeding 3.4 billion USD. To be present in many demanding markets, Vinamilk's products must pass strict inspection by international inspection organizations. Positive reviews from prestigious organizations have helped the brand become more stable.

According to Brand Finance, Vinamilk is not only a national brand but also the only representative of Southeast Asia to be in the Top 10 most valuable milk brands globally. Thanks to that, the Vietnamese dairy industry is ranked 5th in the world in terms of brand value, surpassing even the powerful countries with long histories such as the US and Finland.

PV: Innovation and improving product quality are the key points. What is Vinamilk's orientation for the next stage of sustainable development?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: We consider sustainable development not only a social responsibility but also a competitive foundation. Vinamilk is implementing emission reduction programs and expanding renewable energy systems at factories and farms. In addition, the company strengthens cooperation with farmers and provides technical support to jointly build a sustainable milk value chain.

PV: With those steps forward, what do you expect for the future of Vinamilk and the Vietnamese dairy industry?

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri: I believe that Vinamilk will continue to be a symbol of Vietnam's spirit of innovation and aspiration to reach new heights. The journey of nearly 50 years has proven the ability of Vietnamese enterprises to persistently pursue core values. In the future, we will expand our presence in many new markets, bringing Vietnamese dairy products to conquer more global consumers.

At the same time, Vinamilk also wishes to actively contribute to the development of Vietnam's food and agricultural industry, aiming at the common goal of bringing Vietnamese brands far and wide, affirming Vietnam's stature on the world economic map.

Vinamilk’s biggest goal is to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. This is not only the company’s commitment to the community but also a requirement to maintain its position in developed markets where “green” standards are increasingly stringent.
