In the final match of the 92kg category of the 2023 National Vovinam Strong Teams Championship held on April 11, martial artist Tran Ngoc Tu completely overwhelmed his opponent Ngo Thanh Hao due to the huge difference in height and weight.
With a height of 2m2, the advantage of long arm and leg span as well as "lightning" kicks helped Ngoc Tu easily defeat Thanh Hao to win the gold medal in the tournament.
Notably, when there were still more than 20 seconds left in the first round, Thanh Hao received a heavy kick from Ngoc Tu, causing him to injure his shoulder and had to retire early.
By defeating Thanh Hao, Ngoc Tu brought the gold medal to the Ho Chi Minh City delegation. This is Tran Ngoc Tu's second gold medal at national level competitions. Previously, he won the gold medal at the 2019 National Vovinam Championship.
However, at the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Ngoc Tu will unfortunately not be able to participate. The reason is that the Vovinam event in this tournament does not have a weight class over 92kg.
However, Ngoc Tu still has a chance to compete in international competitions when the Vovinam World Championship will take place in November this year in Ho Chi Minh City.
At the 31st SEA Games, Vovinam has 15 events, Vietnam is in the lead with 6 gold medals, Cambodia (3 gold medals), Myanmar (3 gold medals), Laos (2 gold medals) and Indonesia won 1 gold medal.
At the 32nd SEA Games, host Cambodia doubled the number of events, including 22 performance medal sets.
