VTV must take on the mission of arousing the aspiration for a strong and prosperous Vietnam, arousing the spirit of standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's powers in the new era, telling good stories, inspiring an entire nation to rise up.
General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the Politburo, has just signed and issued Resolution 57, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, December 22, 2024. This is a particularly important thematic Resolution on Breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, with many revolutionary viewpoints, tasks and solutions, similar to Resolution (NQ) Contract 10 for agriculture 40 years ago, but this time for national science, technology (S&T), innovation (I&T) and digital transformation (DTS). From a lack of S&T, I&T and DTS, we will move towards sufficient, surplus, export and large-scale export of S&T, I&T and DTS, just like we have done with agriculture.
Resolution 10 is to escape poverty, Resolution 57 is to escape the middle-income trap. Resolution 10 is to liberate labor, Resolution 57 is to liberate creativity. The common spirit of both Resolution 10 and Resolution 57 is to manage by objectives, regardless of how things are done, to give autonomy and responsibility to workers, and for workers to benefit from the fruits of labor and creativity.
Vietnam Television can take the spirit of Resolution 10 and Resolution 57 to innovate internal management within VTV, creating a strong liberation of labor, creativity and autonomy for units within VTV. If VTV wants to do a good job, then everyone must live well. Live well to do a good job.
No country has ever transformed into a dragon or a tiger without using spiritual strength. Spiritual strength multiplies material strength. Great and important things require spiritual strength even more. VTV is the national television station, so it must take on the mission of arousing the aspiration for a strong and prosperous Vietnam, arousing the spirit of standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's powers in the new era. Telling good stories, inspiring an entire nation to rise up. That is a small but great thing.
VTV is now the only national television station. But an organization that wants to improve sustainably needs strong competitors. VTV should compare itself with national television stations of other countries in the region and the world to strive. Vietnam's economy has ranked 34th in the world. Has Vietnam's national television station ranked 34th in the world? Has Vietnam's image to the world been commensurate with its position at 34? Does Vietnam have an international English channel like Japan's NHK World? And if not, what should we do? This question is a direction for VTV in the decade ahead. Let's not only compare ourselves, compare ourselves with other television stations in Vietnam, but also compare ourselves with other television stations in the world and find ways to increase our international ranking.
We often compare ourselves with ourselves, but more importantly, we compare ourselves with other countries, the countries around us, and even developed countries, in order to change our national ranking. Vietnam is no longer small, but must rise up to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great powers. We have the strength to rise up, our per capita income has reached the average level. We have the opportunity of the fourth industrial revolution, the digital technology revolution. We have the aspiration for a strong Vietnam. Meeting these three conditions is enough to rise up, for the country to grow by double digits. VTV has also met these three conditions to rise up strongly.
If Vietnam wants to fly, it must have wings, one side is technology, the other side is the spiritual strength aroused by the press, media and publishing. VTV has the mission to contribute significantly to creating one of the wings for Vietnam to fly.
Vietnam Television is currently still dominated by traditional television. But the main front of media now is the Internet, in the digital environment. Victory or defeat will be on this front. Young people today hardly watch traditional television. State media must not leave the Internet battlefield empty. The station must quickly occupy the Internet battlefield more strongly. It must be strong in both waves and numbers. It must contribute to creating the mainstream of state media in cyberspace. Content is the core strength of VTV, now it must add digital technology, it must add creativity in the digital environment. In China, news articles in the digital space have started under 1 minute, films have started under 3 minutes. The short has become the king. VTV has been successful, is successful in the long, so it must know how to succeed in the opposite, that is, the short. In the digital environment, it needs to be shorter, faster and wider.
Resolution 57 has identified the trio of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the three main pillars for national development in the new era. In which, science and technology is the foundation, it creates knowledge and tools. Digital transformation is the driving force, it transforms new knowledge and new tools into ideas and solutions. Digital transformation is the realization of ideas and solutions into products and services and popularization into life to create real value.
VTV also needs these three to develop the Station in the new era. VTV will have to play the leading role in promoting Resolution 57. The best way to do this is to pioneer in implementing these three right in the Station's operations, as quickly as possible. Applying new technology, the spirit of innovation in both content creation and Station management, strongly implementing digital transformation in all of the Station's operations, using AI to exploit VTV's huge data and content warehouse to create new values, new sources of revenue, what you call data journalism. If we do it, we experience it, and then we do media, then media will be excellent because of that.
The other day, someone told me that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - General Director of VTV is a person who meets all the conditions, is a professional and good at his job, is a businessman, is a person who left the State and then returned to the State, is a person who has gone through state management, is a leader of the Ministry of Press Management, and now is the General Director of the National Television Station. There are not many people like Mr. Lam. And therefore, we have enough basis to believe that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam will lead the National Television Station VTV with the orientation of One VTV to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's powers.
