Bread poisoning in Ho Chi Minh City: 162 patients, inspection team set up

Regarding the food poisoning incident after eating bread, the number of poisoning cases is increasing, up to 162 people, the authorities have set up an inspection team to work with the owner of the facility.

On the afternoon of November 8, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , the leader of the People's Committee of Hanh Thong Ward (HCMC) said that immediately after receiving the information, the ward coordinated with the HCMC Department of Food Safety to set up an inspection team and work with the owner of Ms. B's toad bread establishment on Nguyen Thai Son Street.

Upon inspection, the bakery had a business registration certificate issued by the People's Committee of Go Vap District (old) in 2020. The owner also had a certificate of knowledge of food safety.

Food preservation equipment and tools: refrigerator, plastic bags, food containers for each type of food separately. No food transportation equipment.

There are tools to protect against sun, rain, dust, insects and harmful animals. The inspection team has sealed the food cabinets and coordinated with the Department of Food Safety to continue the inspection according to regulations.

"Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety is investigating and handling the poisoning case according to the Ministry of Health's food poisoning investigation regulations," he informed.

On the same day, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that the unit had established an investigation team to investigate the bread selling establishment and was conducting an investigation and handling the matter.

In addition to inspecting branch 1 at Nguyen Thai Son (Hanh Thong ward), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said it also inspected branch 2 on Le Quang Dinh street (Binh Loi Trung).

At the time of investigation, at 3:00 p.m. on November 8, the facility at branch 2 had stopped operating. According to information from surrounding residents, the sandwich shop was just a pushcart, selling on the sidewalk on Le Quang Dinh Street.

As Tuoi Tre Online reported earlier, on November 6, many hospitals said they had received a series of cases of food poisoning after eating bread at Ms. B's toad bread shop on Nguyen Thai Son Street, Hanh Thong Ward (HCMC).

The patients said they experienced symptoms of food poisoning after eating bread from Ms. B's bakery at both locations on Nguyen Thai Son Street and Le Quang Dinh Street.

By the afternoon of November 8, the number of cases of food poisoning after eating bread at this shop had increased to 162. Notably, a pregnant woman over 34 weeks ate bread at the Le Quang Dinh branch and was at risk of premature birth.

Most patients present with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, fatigue, varying degrees of severity. Laboratory findings include increased white blood cells and CRP.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , clinical and paraclinical data of most patients with food poisoning after eating bread are consistent with intestinal bacteria, most likely Salmonella.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , this is a branded bakery, has been in business for over 30 years, is very popular, and is bought by many people in the area. The shop usually announces its opening hours from 6am to 7pm.
