Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen has just signed a document to the Ministry of Education and Training and the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety of provinces and cities, requesting to strengthen food safety assurance work in schools and collective kitchens.
The Ministry of Health requested the Ministry of Education and Training and localities to strictly implement the provisions of the Food Safety Law, the Government's decrees and directives on food safety conditions for food service establishments and street food. In particular, the head of the collective kitchen must be responsible before the law if violations or food poisoning occur.

The Ministry of Health requires localities to develop specific plans to ensure food safety in all collective kitchens in industrial zones, schools, medical facilities, factories and food service establishments. Inspection, supervision and post-inspection must be carried out regularly, not allowing unqualified establishments to operate. Violations must be detected early, strictly handled and publicized in the media to warn the community.
This unit also emphasized the need to strengthen inter-sectoral coordination between Health, Education, Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone Management Boards and local authorities in controlling the entire food supply chain - from the origin of raw materials, processing, preservation, transportation, to three-step inspection and sample storage in the kitchen.
Along with that, the Ministry of Health requested educational institutions to strictly implement regulations on food hygiene and safety at schools according to Joint Circulars 08/2008 and 13/2016 between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training; promote propaganda and education on food poisoning prevention for students, teachers, staff and parents.
The Health sector also requires raising awareness and responsibility of heads of kitchen establishments, ready-to-eat meal providers, and food service business owners to ensure safe and sustainable food production and supply. Units that perform well should be commended, while violations must be strictly handled.
In addition, the Ministry of Health recommends mobilizing the participation of unions, unions, parent-teacher associations, youth unions and social organizations in monitoring food safety and environmental sanitation in schools, hospitals and industrial zones. Medical facilities need to fully prepare plans, human resources, supplies, chemicals, and be ready to respond, provide emergency aid and promptly handle food poisoning incidents, minimizing the impact on public health.
