Previously, at around 7:00 p.m. on November 2, the on-duty force of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center discovered a collapsed wall section in the area of Dang Thai Than Street, Phu Xuan Ward, about 50 meters from Hoa Binh Gate. Immediately after the incident, the Center covered it with tarpaulin, erected a warning fence, made a record of the current situation and reported to the Hue City People's Committee.

Hue citadel wall collapsed
Initial surveys show that the prolonged rain and floods since October 26 have caused the ancient brick and mortar structure to become waterlogged, weakening it and leading to partial collapse. Mr. Le Cong Son, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that this citadel wall was built a long time ago, using traditional materials, and over time and many repairs, the structure has become weak. Due to the impact of natural disasters, the citadel wall has collapsed.

The collapsed section of the northern wall of Hue Imperial Citadel has been fenced off.
"Historically, this structure was built hundreds of years ago, from the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty, the materials were connected together with clay. The impact of Hue's weather, frequent rain and floods, has affected these structures. This section of the wall has also been reinforced and repaired many times, especially the recent flood, which lasted too long, the water flow was too strong, leading to the situation where the wall could not withstand it and collapsed."
Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested the People's Committee of Hue City to urgently inspect and assess the extent of damage, review the entire system of walls, gates, and relics in the World Cultural Heritage area - Hue Monuments Complex; at the same time, organize protection of the scene, prevent landslides from spreading, and ensure safety for the relics and people in the surrounding area.
