Regarding the case of thousands of unpaid overtime hours for teachers in Dak Lak, according to the latest statistics from the Provincial Department of Education and Training, as of the afternoon of October 29th, 61 out of 102 communes and wards had submitted reports.
Of these, 23 communes and wards confirmed that they had not fully paid teachers for overtime teaching, with a total amount exceeding 35 billion VND.
The Department of Education and Training is urging the remaining localities to promptly submit reports so that a basis can be compiled and submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for direction in resolving the issue definitively and ensuring the rights of teachers.

Previously, the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training stated that, following media reports and directives from the Provincial People's Committee, it had issued a document requesting localities and educational institutions to report in detail on the payment of overtime pay to teachers.
Initial review indicates that schools under the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, such as high schools and vocational training centers/continuing education centers, do not have any outstanding debts for overtime teaching fees.
The delay in payments mainly occurs in preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools directly managed by the People's Committees of communes and wards.
For example, in Buon Ma Thuot ward, Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School owes more than 6,500 extra teaching hours, equivalent to nearly 1.2 billion VND; Vo Thi Sau Primary School owes nearly 3,000 hours, equivalent to 582 million VND. The schools said they have repeatedly requested payment, but have not yet been allocated funds to settle the debt.
According to Government Decrees 60/2021 and 111/2025, funding for overtime teaching is allocated in the annual recurrent expenditure budget of each unit. Schools must proactively balance their budgets within the allocated funds to ensure proper payment and protect teachers' rights. However, many schools have yet to pay this amount to their teachers.
In response to this situation, on October 10th, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province issued a document requesting the Department of Education and Training to report on and urgently address three pressing issues in the education sector. One of these issues was the unpaid overtime pay for teachers.
The Provincial People's Committee leaders requested the Department of Education and Training to take the lead and coordinate with relevant units to immediately investigate and handle the matter, ensuring the legitimate rights of the teaching staff.
