From valedictorian to failed 10th grade: The exam board apologizes to parents and candidates

On the afternoon of October 9, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem - principal of Ngoc Lac High School ( Thanh Hoa ) - chairman of the 10th grade entrance exam board of Le Hong Phong High School, Bim Son town - said: "After the incident of wrongly recording scores happened to CTH candidates, I and the remedial and scoring team worked with the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Training to resolve the incident. This is an unfortunate incident that happened to the exam board, there is no negative incident."

Mr. Liem also added that he and the team had returned to the exam site and accepted responsibility to the parents, CTH candidates and the leaders of the Department of Education and Training. "I would like to apologize to the parents and CTH candidates. The members involved in this incident have submitted an explanation to the department's leaders and are ready to accept any form of punishment from their superiors."

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung - Chief Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, this unit has just announced the results of checking and reviewing the exam scores of CTH candidates, the exam council of Le Hong Phong High School.

Test results, compare test scores of CTH candidates: math, score on the score sheet is 4.5; score on the test is 4.5; score on the transcript is 8.0.

Literature score: score on the scorecard is 6.5; score on the test is 6.5; score on the transcript is 8.5.

English score: score on the scorecard is 2.4; score on the test is 2.4; score on the transcript is 6.4.

The members who returned the scores at the examination council of Le Hong Phong High School include: the score reader is Ngo Thi Tuyet, the reading control officer is Vu Thi Thuy, the score recorder is Ngo Thi Trang, the recording control officer is Tran Thi Tu, all are teachers of Ngoc Lac High School.

Working with the Inspector of the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem and members of the re-scoring team took responsibility for the fact that during the working process, due to work pressure and lack of concentration, the CTH candidate's scores were recorded incorrectly.

The members affirmed that the mistake in recording candidate H's score was completely unintentional.

Will handle strictly, ensure the right to study of CTH students

Through inspection and verification by the Inspectorate of the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, it was found that the test scores recorded on the name board and the scores of CTH candidates were not consistent with the scores recorded on the candidates' test papers, specifically: the scores recorded on the score board were 8.0 points in math; 8.5 points in literature; and 6.4 points in English. The scores recorded on the test papers were: 4.5 points in math; 6.5 points in literature; and 2.4 points in English.

The re-evaluation and scoring team of Ngoc Lac High School's exam board mistakenly scored the exam scores of CTH candidates in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year.

The responsibility for the above error lies with the chairman of the examination board and the members of the re-checking and scoring team.

The inspection team requested the Director of the Department of Education and Training to direct the Department of Examination and Education Quality Assessment and Le Hong Phong High School to coordinate to re-enroll students to grade 10 of high school in the 2024-2025 school year according to the test scores of CTH candidates.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online at noon on October 9, Mr. Tran Van Thuc - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa - said that this afternoon, October 9, the department's leaders and specialized departments will have a working session with Le Hong Phong High School and parents of CTH candidates to resolve a number of related issues, ensuring the right to study of H.

The Department's leaders will also strictly handle relevant groups and individuals who have made mistakes regarding CTH candidates.
