Students "rack their brains" to calculate university admission methods
The period after Tet until the end of the second semester for students is also the time when universities announce their admission methods for the next school year.
Each school has its own "hundred flowers blooming" in terms of majors, admission methods, IELTS and SAT score conversion criteria, and separate exams... making students and parents confused as if they were standing in front of a matrix.
Most recently, the University of Natural Sciences (VNU Hanoi) announced that it has 7 admission combinations, Hanoi University of Law has 9 combinations, and Hanoi University of Architecture has 12 combinations. This number has skyrocketed at Hanoi University of Industry (15 combinations) or University of Natural Sciences (VNU HCMC) has 17 combinations...
As a 12th grade student, Trieu Quoc Anh ( Thanh Hoa ) shared: "I feel confused by the many different methods of universities such as considering high school graduation exam scores, considering combined academic records, or considering admission based on exams to assess students' abilities and thinking...
Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and I don't know which one to choose. There's not much time left, now just filtering the criteria to calculate and arrange according to wishes is also a problem."

Admission methods, score conversion criteria, separate exams... make many candidates worried when calculating to choose a university (Illustration: MH).
Unlike Quoc Anh, the pressure of Le Ngoc Huyen, a 12th grader in Hanoi , comes from balancing her parents' wishes with her personal interests. Ngoc Huyen shared: "My mother expects me to study teaching like her. But I want to study graphic design.
Many times I feel very pressured, because I don't want to give up my desired major but I'm also afraid of upsetting my mother. This not only affects my psychology but also affects my choice of admission method and my allocation of review time."
Faced with the choice of studying to be a teacher, Huyen will need to focus on preparing well for the high school graduation exam results, but if she chooses graphic design, she will have to spend time preparing carefully for the competency assessment exam.
"For a good student, reviewing for both the competency assessment exam and the graduation exam is not a big problem. However, my academic ability is average, if I focus on both "fronts", the results will definitely not be as expected.
I can only choose one of the two to review carefully, but now I'm still very hesitant," Huyen sadly shared.
In addition, students can also be psychologically influenced by friends in choosing admission methods, majors, and schools. When friends around them invite each other to choose a major or a certain admission method to enter the same school, it makes students in the group easily have a crowd mentality and ignore admission opportunities that are suitable for them.

What should 12th grade students do if they are "vague" about their choice?
Ms. Anh Tuyet, a homeroom teacher of grade 12 at a high school in Thanh Hoa, shared: "Most grade 12 students often seek support from teachers to ask for advice on issues related to the high school graduation exam. This year in particular, the number of students asking for advice and suggestions on admission methods has increased somewhat.
The high school graduation exam is getting closer and closer. Except for some students who have already determined their goals, many students are still confused between admission methods as well as choosing a major and school.
His general mentality is often very easy to get anxious, affecting his learning performance, making his revision ineffective.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Truong Dai Luong, lecturer in charge of admissions at Hanoi University of Culture, to reduce the difficulty in choosing, candidates should "consider what major they want to apply for, what field they want to study in, and consider their abilities and the level of their high school studies."
Then, students "should research school groups related to their desired career and admission methods, and from there filter out school groups that match their learning abilities."
He also added that this year and in recent years, the Ministry of Education and Training has also created favorable conditions for candidates, so candidates first need to determine their favorite major. After receiving the exam scores, they can start "considering which schools are suitable and applying to those schools".
"Each student should rely on their own strengths, weaknesses and interests to make choices and should not be influenced by external influences. Of course, they can listen to the advice of those around them, but they should consider which advice is right and which advice is not suitable in order to determine themselves well," said Mr. Luong.
According to the previous announcement of the Ministry of Education and Training on the university admission plan for 2025, before May 17, candidates must register their admission wishes.
After that, the official time for candidates to register and adjust their admission wishes is from July 16 to 5:00 p.m. on July 28.
Candidates can register, adjust, and add admission wishes an unlimited number of times. Candidates use the assigned account to process information (enter, edit, view) of the candidate's information on the system.
It is expected that on July 21, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the threshold to ensure input quality for teacher training and health sectors.
From August 13 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20, the organization will process admission requests. Universities will upload data, admission information, and organize admissions. Complete notification of first-round admission candidates from 5:00 p.m. on August 22.
