Connecting tourism development space

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has just been honored to receive the 4th Innovation Award, 2025 for the City River Festival project.

Through two times of organization, Ho Chi Minh City River Festival has brought unique tourism products, creating strong momentum to build the brand of Ho Chi Minh City as a modern river city with rich identity.

Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa said: “We hope that the River Festival will become an open festival, taking place for many days and simultaneously in many locations in the city, with links to neighboring provinces and cities to become a typical festival of the region, thereby spreading the cultural and historical values of the new city to localities through the language of contemporary artistic storytelling”.

It is possible to form world-class sea tourism areas in Ho Tram, Binh Chau, Long Hai, Vung Tau; develop eco-tourism and resort areas in Can Gio (where Can Gio mangrove biosphere reserve is located); build modern urban areas with MICE tourism products, combine golf tourism in Binh Duong with urban heritage space in the core area of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to tourism experts, Ho Chi Minh City connecting the former coastal tourism space of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province with the technology park, modern industrial-urban park in the former Binh Duong province will form new, unique and attractive tourism product chains.

Expert Nguyen Minh Man said: “It is possible to form a world-class sea tourism area in the areas of Ho Tram, Binh Chau, Long Hai, Vung Tau; develop an eco-tourism and resort area in Can Gio (where the Can Gio mangrove biosphere reserve is located); build a modern urban area with MICE tourism products, combine golf tourism in Binh Duong with urban heritage space in the core area of Ho Chi Minh City. Connecting these destinations will bring interesting experiences to tourists”.

Nguyen Cam Tu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center, said that waterway tourism and MICE tourism will have many opportunities to develop strongly, creating new tourism products. From now until the end of the year, the city will have many tourism activities in the new development space.

In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair taking place in early September will introduce many new products to international customers. At this fair, the city will host the 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) in 2025 with the theme “Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital Transformation and Green Transformation”.

Building a dynamic and modern tourist area

According to some tourism experts, in order for the tourism industry to be worthy of a "super city", Ho Chi Minh City needs to quickly solve the problem of tourism human resources in the initial stages of merging and implementing a two-level government.

Previously, the city successfully implemented the model "Each district has a unique tourism product" contributing to promoting the tourism potential of the city center with many tourism products loved by tourists.

Now that the two-level government has been put into operation, the city needs to quickly build, consolidate, and raise awareness for the team of tourism officials at the grassroots level about developing local tourism products, to avoid slowing down or interruption.

By the end of this year, Ho Chi Minh City will launch a number of new tourism products such as: tours to explore inner-city rivers combined with riverside culinary experiences; tourist routes connecting heritage sites and museums by electric buses; tourism packages combining weekend vacations with exploring mangrove forests and newly opened expressways...

In addition, the city will have more night tourism products on Bui Vien walking street, night bicycle tours of Ho Chi Minh City...

The city's tourism industry is also developing new inter-regional tourism products, connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau (old) following the model of "one journey, many destinations" to exploit the advantages of resorts, islands, and community ecology combined with industrial tourism and urban experiences.

As the leading economic, cultural, educational and technological center of the country, Ho Chi Minh City has not only set the goal of recovering the tourism industry after Covid-19, but also oriented towards building a smart, sustainable tourism ecosystem, integrating high technology, especially the application of artificial intelligence.

According to Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Le Truong Hien Hoa, smart tourism is a prerequisite for the industry to adapt and develop in the digital age.

Ho Chi Minh City has proactively implemented many outstanding solutions such as: Forming a smart tourism operation center; applying 3D interactive maps and virtual reality (VR) technology; Ho Chi Minh City Tourism App platform integrating multi-dimensional information and personalization features; digitizing tourism publications via QR codes, integrating promotion on multi-channel social networking platforms.
