On August 3, the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park ( Quang Binh ) said that it is coordinating with the Vietnam Wildlife Conservation Center and the Animals Asia Organization to check the health, vaccinate and transfer 7 Indochinese tigers to a new cage for better living space.
Experts check the health of each tiger before moving to a new cage.
Accordingly, to conduct health examinations and move 7 tigers, experts approached to anesthetize each tiger with a specialized syringe.
The transport team then used stretchers to carry the tigers from the old cage to the veterinary room for experts to take X-rays, ultrasounds, test related indicators, and inject the first dose of Purevax vaccine.
Once the steps are completed, each tiger is moved into a new cage. The new cage has an area of about 40 square meters, with 3 solid houses and 9 cages. The new living area for the 7 tigers is also expanded with swimming pools and exercise areas.
According to the representative of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board, compared to the time when the 7 new tigers were brought in for care, their weight has now doubled, with each tiger weighing an average of 100kg. The health check, vaccination and relocation of the 7 tigers to the new breeding area aims to ensure disease prevention as well as create the best conditions for the long-term care and nurturing of Indochinese tigers in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
Previously, at the end of March 2022, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park organized the reception of 7 Indochinese tigers from Pu Mat National Park ( Nghe An ), which were evidence of a criminal case, for care and conservation. Up to now, all 7 tigers are growing well.
