"Overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain" at the construction site of 500 kV line 3

The Prime Minister, together with leaders of ministries, branches and provinces through which the power line passes, have repeatedly inspected and urged the progress of the project. Vietnam Electricity Group and the National Power Transmission Corporation have organized a special peak emulation period, "sprint", mobilizing all forces to participate in striving to complete the entire project on time.

All for the 500 kV line circuit 3

Present at the location of VT 422 column in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district ( Nghe An ), it was only 9 am but I could clearly feel the heat of this summer day. Under the scorching sun, the working atmosphere of the staff and workers was still enthusiastic. Shirts soaked with sweat, skin darkened, faces covered with dust and sand... but the workers' hands still worked tirelessly.

After more than two months of struggling in harsh weather, while pulling the rope, Nguyen Van Hoi from Dien Chau (Nghe An) shared: We are used to the harsh weather here. Many days when we are working, it suddenly rains, or the Foehn wind blows strongly, we have to climb down and wait for the rain to stop or the wind to lighten before climbing back up and continuing. The weather this season is hot, some days the peak temperature is over 40oC, making the steel beams scorching hot...

The project is in the final stage, the units are focusing on mobilizing forces, machinery, and means to increase support, speed up the progress of erecting poles and pulling wires. Nghe An province has 202 pole positions, up to now, 121 pole positions have been erected, the construction units are focusing on human resources and equipment to erect the remaining 81 pole positions and have completed pulling wires for one stretch, and are pulling wires for five other stretches. Mr. Vo Van Hung, from Cam Xuyen district ( Ha Tinh ) has not been home for more than two months, confided: Although I miss my wife and children, for the common goal, I have to temporarily put aside missing my family. To avoid the heat, the morning shift starts working from 5am, the afternoon shift starts from 2 or 3pm until the sun sets.

For the plan to pull wires through locations that cross residential roads or national highways, the construction unit proactively coordinates with local authorities to set up scaffolding, direct traffic, and ensure safety for vehicles passing through. In particular, the stage of erecting poles and pulling wires requires skilled workers, so every day the electricity industry mobilizes more than 1,000 technical workers to carry out the work. Mr. Nguyen Trong Dung, Site Commander, said: Regardless of day or night, the construction site always has a lot of workers, along with modern machinery. All of us work almost three shifts, four shifts. Safety work is of special concern to contractors. The higher the level, the more strictly the construction force complies with labor safety work. Working in harsh conditions, but with the attention and support of the unit's leaders, the brothers are happy, enthusiastic about their work, and encourage each other to overcome difficulties.

The decisive participation of the entire political system

With the strong direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the leaders of Nghe An province have focused on directing relevant levels, sectors and localities to "struggle" with all their might. Thanks to that, the 500 kV line 3 project through Nghe An is being accelerated more than ever.

Up to now, Nghe An has handed over all 202/202 pole foundation locations and the entire corridor of the route on the site to the investor. In Nghe An, there are 53 households affected by land acquisition for the project; of which, 18 households have requested to be handed over resettlement land and the localities are completing legal procedures to hand over resettlement land. The households have basically demolished their houses and handed over the site to the construction unit to ensure progress before energizing. Yen Thanh District Party Secretary Le Thi Hoai Chung said: In Yen Thanh district, there are 22 pole locations passing through the 500 kV line 3 project.

“From the very first day, Yen Thanh district has resolutely directed and propagated to make people understand the importance of the project, so the handover of clean land to the investor was carried out quickly. Local authorities and organizations have also directly come to encourage and support the workers by providing drinking water, food, and accompanying the units and workers…”, the Secretary of Yen Thanh District Party Committee shared.

Carrying out the peak emulation campaign of 30 days and nights of volunteering to "overcome the sun, overcome the rain" to support the implementation of the 500 kV line 3 project through Nghe An last June, Nghe An Provincial Youth Union mobilized more than 1,100 union members and young people, regardless of the scorching sun of Nghe An, to coordinate with the electricity industry and local authorities to clear the land, cut down trees, demolish houses..., and support the construction unit to speed up the project progress.

During the peak emulation period, Nghe An youth supported the dismantling of 24 houses, 44 barns and structures; participated in clearing, clearing, and felling more than 26 hectares, nearly 9,000 trees of all kinds in the corridor of the 500 kV power line to hand over the construction site. Nghe An youth also presented more than 1,000 water tanks, milk, 500 meals, and 500 kg of fresh lemons to the forces working on the power line.

Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Youth Union Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy said: Nghe An Youth Union has made great efforts to effectively implement many tasks to best support the construction force of the 500 kV line 3 project in Nghe An. Youth Union chapters at all levels and volunteer youth have coordinated with construction units to arrange forces in accordance with the actual situation, ensuring efficiency and labor safety.

In the most recent inspection, encouragement and supervision of the project, Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy requested that units continue to make the greatest efforts, overcome difficulties caused by the weather, arrange enough human resources to both speed up construction progress and ensure quality and labor safety, contributing to bringing the entire project to the finish line on time. Localities where the 500 kV line passes through need to continue to ensure the best security and order; strictly manage the handed-over route corridor; promptly support and resolve arising issues, creating the most favorable conditions for the project to be constructed on schedule.

Previously, on June 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directly inspected the progress of the 500kV line 3 project through Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces and chaired a meeting with leaders of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, Vietnam Electricity Group, and the National Power Transmission Corporation in Nghe An province. The Prime Minister requested that the remaining work be urgently completed with a spirit of high determination, greater efforts, and more drastic actions, because until completion and energization, there is still much work to be done.

The 500kV line 3 circuit project from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen) is a national key project, with a large scale with a length of about 519km of double circuit passing through 9 provinces. Of which, nearly 100km passes through Nghe An province with two component projects: Quang Trach - Quynh Luu and Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa.
