This is one of the activities under the Library Improvement project, aiming to build a student-friendly reading space, thereby narrowing theeducational gap between schools in particular and Binh Chanh district in general with other districts.
Binh Chanh is a suburban district, 15 km southwest of the center of Ho Chi Minh City. The locality is currently facing many challenges related to infrastructure, physical conditions as well as investment in education, health care and child protection. Rapid urbanization, large population and high immigration rate (over 35%), require improvement of infrastructure and quality of education, especially basic reading and writing skills of students. Through library activities, these skills of children can be completely improved.
With a priority on ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop to their full potential, World Vision International in Vietnam is working with local partners in Binh Chanh and donors to develop a plan to renovate libraries and promote a reading culture.
In 2023, two representatives from the sponsoring unit presented a support amount of more than 2.4 billion VND to improve the libraries for the principals of two primary schools, An Ha and Le Minh Xuan 3. |
Mr. Pham Trung Huu - Principal of An Ha Primary School shared: "The 2024 Reading Festival is a meaningful and practical activity in the series of activities of the Library Improvement project that the school cooperates with World Vision International in Vietnam to implement, aiming to enhance students' reading skills through access to quality libraries and interesting activities to help build and foster a reading culture for them."

In addition to organizing events such as the Reading Festival, the project also renovates the facilities, helps diversify the books and organizes weekly reading sessions, aiming to foster reading habits for students. The library will also be converted into a learning space with a fully equipped, modern computer room. The project also organizes regular training sessions for teachers and students on cyber safety. Students will have the opportunity to access high-quality library space, improve their knowledge and skills to protect themselves, and at the same time be facilitated to actively participate in school activities.

I also appreciate the cooperation of local partners, two sponsors KIS Vietnam, KIM Vietnam An Ha Primary School, and Le Minh Xuan 3 Primary School in implementing the effective Library Improvement project, together aiming to ensure the welfare of children.”
The Library Improvement Project is one of the activities under the Regional Program implemented by World Vision International in Vietnam in Binh Chanh District since 2014. After nearly 10 years of operation in 3 target communes of Le Minh Xuan, Pham Van Hai and Tan Nhut, the regional program has achieved many remarkable results. In the past 5 years, the rate of parents and caregivers using violence to educate children has decreased by 24%, while the number of households with cohesion among members has increased by 10%. |
