Yen Nghiep Commune mobilizes resources for sustainable poverty reduction

Many female workers in Yen Nghiep commune (Lac Son) have been attracted to garment processing factories in the area, contributing to job creation and sustainable poverty reduction.

Like many women in Go Cha hamlet, Ms. Bui Thi Hien used to work as a garment worker in some industrial parks in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces. Since getting married, she had to quit her job to take care of her young child. Now things are different, a number of garment and leather shoe manufacturing enterprises have come into operation near the commune; a few private garment factories have also opened, creating many job opportunities for people of working age. Ms. Hien shared: From being economically dependent, I was accepted to work as a tailor at the factory with a suitable job, ensuring both income independence with an average salary of 4 - 5 million VND/month while still being able to take care of the house and take care of the children.

Along with the National Target Program on New Rural Development, farmers in Yen Kim, Go Cha, Mai Son, Luc hamlets... have actively transformed the structure of crops and livestock, effectively implementing agricultural restructuring. With a total planting area of nearly 920 hectares, in addition to increasing rice and corn output, people in the hamlets have diversified agricultural products to meet market demand. In addition to 125 hectares of purple sugarcane and raw sugarcane, people have expanded the area of growing vegetables, tubers and fruits, of which, the vegetable area is over 110 hectares, beans are over 5 hectares, peanuts are 12.5 hectares, squash is nearly 30 hectares, pumpkin is over 10 hectares, cucumber is 4.7 hectares, green thorn is over 4 hectares, macadamia is nearly 3 hectares...

In recent times, the commune has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to consolidate land, exchange plots, and renovate mixed gardens. People have developed livestock and poultry farming to help stabilize income. Up to now, the commune has a total herd of nearly 1,250 buffaloes and cows, over 2,000 pigs, and about 30,000 poultry. Many households have invested in raising goats and bees for honey. Some households have taken advantage of being near national and provincial highways to invest in service industries and trade in commercial goods. The Luc Nghiep Thanh Brocade Weaving Cooperative has also been established in Luc hamlet to attract women to participate in the profession, contributing to increasing income and preserving the cultural identity of traditional handicraft villages.

Comrade Bui Cong Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen Nghiep Commune, said: Labor and employment work is important, promoting sustainable poverty reduction in the locality. In 2024, the Fatherland Front , commune unions and hamlets mobilized members, union members and people to participate in job fairs organized by the district. At the same time, promptly update and notify people when companies and factories are recruiting workers so that workers can apply for jobs at companies and factories in the district and neighboring provinces. Coordinate to organize training courses and vocational training for people according to the set plan.

Currently, the whole commune still has 73 poor households, accounting for 5.3%; 78 near-poor households, accounting for 5.66%. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, of which agriculture, forestry, and livestock account for 40%, small-scale industry 25%, and trade and services 35%. The commune has an average income per capita of 59 million VND/year. To improve the quality of poverty reduction and create jobs for workers, the commune focuses on implementing well the programs, projects, and policies issued by the state to support production, stabilize life, and ensure social security for the people, especially for poor households and policy households.
