Time of draw for qualifying round
The draw for the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League will take place on August 28. This will be the second season of the competition with 36 teams.
In the draw, the 36 participating teams will be divided into four seeding pots based on the UEFA coefficient rankings. The reigning Champions League champions (PSG) are placed in Pot 1.
From group 1, each team will be drawn and paired with 8 other opponents using a specialized software system to ensure the balance and fairness of the tournament. This will lead to the possibility of many "big battles."
Each club will play eight qualifying matches, four at home and four away. Notably, the familiar rules still apply: Teams cannot face opponents from the same country, nor can they face more than two clubs from the same footballing background.
The draw will continue until the fixtures for all 36 clubs are finalised. After eight rounds of matches, the eight best-performing clubs will qualify directly for the round of 16. The teams ranked 9th to 24th will enter a two-legged play-off round to compete for the remaining eight spots.
UEFA is expected to announce the specific dates and times of each match no later than August 30.
The qualifying round is scheduled to take place from September 16, 2025 to January 28, 2026. The knockout stages and semi-finals will be held from January 17, 2026 to May 6, 2026. The final will be played on May 30, 2026 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
