A clip appeared on social media showing a group of four female elementary school students smoking in the schoolyard. The incident quickly attracted public attention and sparked mixed opinions about the morality and awareness of young students as well as the school’s responsibility in managing andeducating students.

According to information from the poster, the above clip was filmed on the campus of an elementary school located in My Thoi ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province.

The clip shows students holding cigarettes and puffing like adults, while there is no supervision from teachers or adults around. Many people expressed concern when witnessing this scene, saying that this is an alarming sign of children being exposed to unhealthy habits at an early age.

After the clip was widely circulated, many opinions said that the school and family need to intervene to promptly correct and educate children about the harmful effects of tobacco as well as awareness in the school environment.

Responding to VTC News, a representative of the Department of Education and Training of An Giang province said that immediately after receiving information about a group of students at a primary school in Long Xuyen city smoking electronic cigarettes, the Department contacted the leaders of the Long Xuyen City People's Committee to request direction to review and clarify the incident.

At the same time, the Department requires schools to closely coordinate with parents and functional units to handle information, and at the same time organize propaganda and educate students in accordance with regulations.

In addition to handling the specific case, the An Giang Department of Education and Training also sent a document to educational institutions across the province, requesting to strengthen management and moral and lifestyle education for students.

In particular, the Department emphasizes the prevention and suppression of violations of school regulations, including students' exposure to tobacco. At the same time, propaganda on preventing school violence, the harmful effects of tobacco and other stimulants also needs to be promoted in the educational environment.

Currently, the authorities and the school are continuing to coordinate to clarify the incident and take appropriate measures to prevent similar cases from happening.
