Strengthening digital capabilities

One of the recent requests of Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son for theeducation sector on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the 80th anniversary of the day Uncle Ho sent his first letter to the education sector is that teachers and students continue to deeply absorb and effectively apply Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on education; thoughts, philosophy, spirit of education, spirit of learning and self-study, lifelong learning.

According to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized the role of self-study, regular study, lifelong study, study anytime, anywhere, and study for everyone as a way to develop people, so that people can always adapt and meet the requirements of work and the requirements of the times.

We are living in an era where knowledge, understanding and understanding will help people maximize their potential to take advantage of opportunities and effectively respond to challenges for sustainable development; it is also an era where the amount of human knowledge increases exponentially every day.

Excerpt from the article “Lifelong Learning” by General Secretary To Lam

The Minister suggested that the education sector nationwide implement and promote Ho Chi Minh's ideology in building a learning society and lifelong learning, promoting the spirit of self-study, as directed by General Secretary To Lam "lifelong learning to dare to think, dare to speak, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to sacrifice for the common good to become a useful person for society".

To implement President Ho Chi Minh's ideology and the instructions of General Secretary To Lam, Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the education sector needs to strengthen education and training in self-study capacity, continuous learning skills, digital learning, digital application, improving digital capacity, innovation capacity for learners, creating a new generation of people who know how to adapt to the challenges of the times.

Learn for real, learn usefully, learn appropriately

In response to the requirement for digital transformation in schools, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ngo Quyen High School (Hanoi) Dong Xuan Hung said that the actual implementation encountered many difficulties and uneven access conditions among educational institutions.

For example, at Ngo Quyen High School, most students come from families with good economic conditions, have stable internet connection and access to technology, so the implementation of online learning models, smart classrooms and technology applications is carried out smoothly.

On the contrary, at Ngo Quyen Secondary School, students mainly come from economically disadvantaged areas such as Son Tay, Ba Vi, Phu Tho, etc. Many students lack smartphones and personal computers, making digital transformation implementation difficult.

Faced with that reality, Ngo Quyen Secondary School has chosen the direction of adaptive and selective digital transformation. Accordingly, the school applies technology at a moderate level, focusing on internal digital learning materials and career simulation videos.

The school also prioritizes direct teaching combined with practical workshop models to ensure that it does not cause "technology shock" to students.

According to Mr. Dong Xuan Hung, the school has organized digital skills training sessions for students at the beginning of the course, especially skills in searching and using simple learning management software. At the same time, the school mobilizes social resources to sponsor learning equipment for disadvantaged students.

"It can be seen that these efforts demonstrate the true spirit of humanistic education, appropriate to the circumstances, focused digital transformation, with a roadmap, not following trends but placing real effectiveness at the center. This also demonstrates the profound concretization of President Ho Chi Minh's thought that "what is necessary is to learn truly, learn usefully, learn in accordance with the conditions of our people", Mr. Hung emphasized.

In addition to implementing digital capacity enhancement for students in schools, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi My Loc, former Principal of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), emphasized that to know the level of digital capacity of an individual, organization or school, it is necessary to have a digital capacity framework.

Accordingly, the education sector needs to develop a digital competency framework for each level and each school to specify it to suit its conditions. It is known that Da Nang is currently the first city to issue a digital competency framework for citizens in the city.

This could be a good reference point for the education sector and localities to issue digital competency frameworks suitable to their conditions to better implement the requirements of improving digital competency and digital learning.
