Coming to Doan Ket commune, you can clearly feel the change of this land, the hillsides are covered with green fruit orchards. People in the commune have planted over 2,100 hectares of fruit trees on the sloping land, mainly longan, mango, jackfruit, banana...
Visit the fruit garden of Mr. Luong Van Nhan's family in Ta Lai village, one of the pioneers in converting fruit trees on sloping land in the commune. Mr. Nhan shared: Since 2013, the family has converted 5 hectares of sloping land to grow longan and mango. Up to now, the garden has produced stable harvests, earning over 400 million VND/year after deducting expenses. Now, my family's life is stable, I have the conditions to take care of my children and grandchildren, and build a more spacious house.
Taking advantage of the abundant cold water source from the streams on the high mountains and many years of experience in aquaculture, many households in Nong Cut village have boldly invested in the sturgeon farming model, which has high economic value. Mr. Vi Van Dam, Nong Cut village, said: Sturgeon is popular in the market, especially in restaurants and hotels in Moc Chau National Tourist Area. Currently, the family has invested in a farm of more than 1,200 m², supplying the market with about 20 tons of commercial fish each year, with an average selling price of 200,000 VND/kg. Sturgeon farming has a very high economic value, but also requires high techniques and initial investment capital, from the process of selecting breeds, preparing water sources, food to disease prevention must be strictly implemented.
In addition, farmers in Doan Ket commune also built “dual benefit” models, such as commercial frog farming combined with fish farming. Frog cages are placed right on the surface of fish ponds, not only do not take up extra space, but also take advantage of frog droppings and leftover food as food sources for fish, helping to clean the water environment and limit diseases.
Mr. Mui Van Linh, Ta Lai village, shared: After visiting and learning frog farming techniques, with available water sources and favorable pond area, in 2021, the family invested in making cages to raise more than 1,000 frogs. Thanks to proper care according to technical processes, the frogs have grown well. Up to now, the family is raising more than 10 frog cages, harvesting 4 tons of commercial frogs/year, earning over 300 million VND.
The success of economic models comes from the boldness, daring to think, daring to do of the people and especially the important guiding and supporting role of the Party Committee, government and local mass organizations. Ms. Ha Thi Yen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Doan Ket Commune, said: The commune has identified the strengths of each area to select crops and livestock suitable to soil conditions; propagate, mobilize and guide people in production techniques, especially new models. Up to now, the total agricultural production area has reached more than 9,700 hectares; forming a corn biomass growing area for feed for dairy cows, with a total area of 293 hectares. Livestock has gradually developed, with 11,100 cattle; nearly 132,400 poultry; maintaining nearly 40 hectares of fish ponds.
The development of diverse economic models in Doan Ket commune has contributed to creating more jobs and increasing income for the people. The Party Committee and the government of Doan Ket commune are continuing to mobilize capital sources to support people in expanding production scale; maintaining and replicating effective economic models, strengthening coordination in transferring science, promoting and consuming products for the people.
