However, recently, many violations in the business of goods, especially those related to food and health, are raising alarm bells when there are businesses that do business regardless of profit, affecting society. Building a community of responsible businesses is an urgent issue.
Sound the alarm
Currently, the problem of counterfeit goods, fake goods, and commercial fraud tends to increase and become more and more complicated, not only directly affecting the economy and the interests of consumers, but also causing great damage to businesses. In particular, recently, the authorities have cracked down on many cases of counterfeit goods trading in large quantities and are inspecting and supervising even some large, branded businesses, which has attracted great public attention.
Counterfeit, fake, and poor quality goods first of all affect consumers immediately when they are sold on the market. Most consumers find it difficult to control the quality before using, which in the long run leads to consequences.
Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, residing in Trang Dai Ward (Bien Hoa City), said that her family regularly uses products related to milk, functional foods... to take care of their health. The matrix of fake, counterfeit, and poor quality products that the authorities have recently cracked down on has made her and everyone else very worried. She will consider buying and using these products more carefully in the future.
Not only consumers but also businesses, counterfeiting and fake brands also cause damage to their brands. Representatives of some businesses producing blankets, sheets, pillows and mattresses in Bien Hoa shared that there was a time when their products were competing in the Central Highlands region with products that imitated their own brands but were of lower quality. This reduced their reputation with customers and took a long time to resolve. Counterfeit and fake products are often of lower quality; meanwhile, consumers often have difficulty distinguishing between real and fake products, which will lead to a wrong assessment of the quality of the business's products, thereby affecting the brand, reputation, and even causing the business to go bankrupt.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Van Quan, a national digital transformation expert and Director of Checkee Technology Joint Stock Company ( Ho Chi Minh City), a unit specializing in providing product traceability solutions, said that even if a business has anti-counterfeit stamps, it is not certain that it can prevent counterfeit products. Mr. Quan said that violations of goods are increasingly sophisticated, so in addition to the need for close coordination between authorities and increasing deterrent penalties, businesses need to proactively deploy digital solutions, transparently tracing from the production facility to the entire supply chain to consumers in an effective way to have a chance to thoroughly handle the problem.
Building a responsible business community
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vo Tan Cong, although the Vietnamese business community is gradually developing, there are still a few entrepreneurs and businesses who still have the mindset of getting rich and seeking profits illegally and unethically. We are seeing cases being discovered, especially in food and medicine.
The Chairman of VCCI said that building business ethics and culture is a big task and the foundation for sustainable private economic development. The Government has assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a project on business ethics and culture. This is a huge challenge for the ministry because it has to build a common system of ethical and cultural values for millions of entrepreneurs and businesses. VCCI suggested that the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should promote the participation of the business community when implementing this project.
VCCI is proactively implementing this work by issuing a code of ethics for businessmen and enterprises from 2023 and is ready to take on the task of developing and implementing this project, turning business ethics and culture into a new strength for Vietnamese businessmen and enterprises. On June 5, VCCI launched the Program for Evaluating and Announcing Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam - CSI 2025 to recognize, encourage and commend enterprises that practice good sustainable production and business activities.
For the business community, doing business with integrity is the path to sustainable and long-term development. Chairman of the Dong Nai Young Entrepreneurs Association Dang Quoc Nghi said that the unit always encourages members and businesses to uphold the spirit of doing business with integrity and responsibility. The future development of businesses is wide open when the country is entering an era of growth. Only when businesses have transparent production and business plans, connect and cooperate with each other, will the competitiveness of businesses increase and develop sustainably.
