Building Hue into a happy land, a more prosperous life

After nearly 50 years of liberating the homeland, up to now, Thua Thien Hue has had many proud changes, becoming a peaceful and happy place.

On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2023), the Government E- Newspaper respectfully introduces an article by Comrade Phan Ngoc Tho, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee, about the milestones and development achievements after nearly 50 years of liberating the homeland of Thua Thien Hue.

Comprehensive achievements in all fields

After the liberation day, overcoming difficulties and challenges caused by the devastation of war, weak economy, natural disasters, epidemics..., the Party Committee, government and people of Thua Thien Hue province united, made efforts, rose up, promoted internal strength, transformed its advantages and potentials to develop harmoniously on the basis of the unique identity of the ancient capital.

Many proud changes are covering the peaceful and happy homeland of Thua Thien Hue, along with its own characteristics that are increasingly affirmed, attractive, and strongly spreading the cultural and historical values, and the people of Hue, and the urban and rural appearance of Hue is increasingly prosperous and spacious.

The socio-economic picture has changed dramatically and historically. The economy has gradually grown in a green and sustainable direction, based on exploiting the potentials and advantages of culture, heritage, education, healthcare and tourism services.

From one of the most difficult localities in the country, Thua Thien Hue has quickly overcome the consequences of war, stabilized the socio-political situation, restored the economy, reformed society healthily, cared for, improved and enhanced the material and spiritual life of the people... The province's GRDP has had positive growth through each stage and period, always at a high level compared to the national average and some provinces in the Central region.

The average economic growth rate in the 2015 - 2020 period reached 6.5%/year, in particular, in 2022, the province's GRDP reached 8.56%, the highest in many years; 14/14 main socio-economic targets in 2022 were achieved and exceeded the plan. In the 2015 - 2020 period, total investment capital increased by an average of 11%/year; State budget revenue increased by an average of 8%, in 2022 it reached over 12,700 billion VND, an increase of 12%. Average income per capita by 2022 reached over 2,400 USD.

The service sector has developed in a diverse manner. Tourism has developed rapidly in both scale and quality, becoming the province's spearhead economic sector. Industry and construction have developed strongly. Hue is an attractive investment locality, attracting leading corporations with brands.

Agriculture and rural areas have developed comprehensively. The appearance of rural areas has been increasingly renewed and improved. Up to now, the whole province has 61/94 communes meeting the new rural standards (65%). Huong Thuy town and Quang Dien district are the two district-level units that have completed the task of building new rural areas.

Up to now, the poverty rate of the whole province has decreased to 3.56%; every year, new jobs are created for nearly 17,000 workers. People's lives are increasingly improved, the income inequality coefficient is lower than the national average. The gap between urban and rural areas and the lives of people in ethnic minority areas, coastal areas, and lagoons are increasingly progressing, improving, and developing.

The work of ensuring national defense, security, and maintaining political and social stability has always been ensured, creating a favorable environment for socio-economic development. The image and position of Thua Thien Hue have been increasingly enhanced. Up to now, the province has established cooperative, friendly, and twinning relations with 45 countries, localities, and territories.

The work of Party building and political system building through the terms has always been focused and emphasized. The organization of the entire political system at all levels has been increasingly streamlined, operating effectively and efficiently. The provincial Party Committee has always been united, clean and strong, and its leadership capacity has been increasingly consolidated and improved, meeting the requirements of the new period.

Hue city today

The appearance of the ancient capital has changed dramatically.

It can be affirmed that today, Thua Thien Hue has risen to become a dynamic development pole of the key economic region of the Central region. Currently, the economic and social infrastructure is constantly being improved and upgraded, contributing to enhancing the local economic potential.

In particular, investment in connecting transport systems has been focused, ending the separation between regions, especially the delta and coastal areas. Infrastructure of Phu Bai international airport, seaport system, fishing ports, routes, coastal tourist areas, lagoons... have been invested in and exploited effectively. Many new international-class tourist areas have been put into operation. Types of cultural, ecological, community and spiritual tourism have been formed and developed, strongly attracting tourists to Hue.

Hue City is becoming more and more beautiful, luxurious and attractive with urban beautification projects and works, especially parks along the banks of the Perfume River, the inner-city traffic system, sidewalks, drainage, lighting, and trees being renovated and upgraded.

Many important projects and works have been vigorously implemented and brought about extremely important meanings and results such as the Project on population relocation and site clearance in Area I of Hue Citadel. New urban areas and high-end residential areas in the new urban area of ​​An Van Duong have been formed, changing the face of the city. Up to now, the urbanization rate of the whole province has reached 56%.

Rapidly developing urban areas, from 2001 to 2020, have established many towns, establishing 2 towns of Huong Tra and Huong Thuy. Currently, the province is focusing on completing the Thua Thien Hue Urban Master Plan Project to 2045, with a vision to 2065, with the orientation of the whole province becoming a centrally-run city.

Affirming the position of cultural, tourism and specialized medical center

Culture and society are increasingly developing comprehensively with the formation and affirmation of its position as the center of culture - tourism, healthcare, education - training and science - technology of the whole country.

The priceless cultural heritages in Thua Thien Hue province, despite the years of harsh natural destruction and the impact of urbanization after the country opened its doors, are still basically preserved and kept quite intact. More than 200 works and items have been renovated, restored and embellished. Hue heritage has entered a period of stability, development and strong revival.

Thua Thien Hue has implemented many synchronous and timely measures to preserve and promote Hue's cultural identity and Hue people in the integration process. Many movements and campaigns have gone into depth, brought practical and meaningful results, and become regular activities, responded to by the entire political system and agreed by the people such as actions to make Thua Thien Hue greener - cleaner - brighter, Green Sunday...

Hue has become an attractive, safe, friendly, hospitable destination...

Today, Hue is famous and attractive with 7 world heritages recognized by UNESCO, nearly 1,000 historical and cultural relics and more than 500 festivals of all kinds; the system of communal houses, garden houses, and ancient streets are gradually being preserved and promoted. Hue City owns many valuable titles and brands: Festival City typical of Vietnam, national green city; ASEAN environmentally sustainable city, ASEAN clean tourism city, Culinary Capital, Vietnamese Ao Dai Capital.

It can be said that Hue culture and Hue people are becoming important resources to develop Thua Thien Hue in the direction of a "Heritage, culture, ecology, landscape, environmentally friendly and smart" urban area. Hue has become an attractive, safe, friendly, hospitable destination... Hue's cultural position in the international integration process is increasingly enhanced.

Thua Thien Hue's healthcare has developed strongly with the establishment and development of a specialized medical center with the pillars and core being Hue Central Hospital, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and a fully invested medical network from the province to the grassroots level, meeting the needs of care, protection and improvement of people's health in the Central region and the whole country, responding to emergency situations when epidemics occur, while contributing to outstanding achievements in the medical field of the country.

As a land of studiousness, Thua Thien Hue has affirmed its role and position in high-quality multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary education and training and research in the region and the country with a system of universities, colleges, vocational high schools; many institutes, branches and research centers under local ministries and branches.

Hue University has been constantly developing in terms of scale, type and training quality; up to now, with 8 member universities, 1 research institute, 5 training units and affiliated units. Hue University, the education and training sector of the province has become a quintessential part of Hue culture, the pride of Hue people.

In recent years, the province has focused on strongly developing information technology, implementing digital transformation with the active and synchronous participation of the entire political system and the entire population. Notably, continuously in 2020 and 2021, Thua Thien Hue's provincial digital transformation index has maintained its 2nd position nationwide...

It can be seen that the journey of nearly 50 years has been a process of profound change, affirming the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party Committee, the government and the great strength of the people of Thua Thien Hue, contributing to creating a new position and strength for the province on the path of development and integration, building a centrally-run city in the spirit of Resolution 54-NQ/TW of the 12th Politburo. In that journey, Thua Thien Hue will always persevere, be synchronous and determined to build Hue into a happy land, where people have a more prosperous life, a more peaceful society and a friendlier government./.
