The opening ceremony was attended by domestic and international artists and movie stars.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh shared: "For a film festival to truly have vitality, it needs the support of the community, from artists, filmmakers, audiences, businesses to international organizations.
We are extremely proud to welcome talented faces, artistic and creative works from the continent to gather, share and connect. Da Nang City will continue to promote investment, support and create the most favorable conditions for the festival seasons to develop sustainably, professionally and with their own identity."
Also at the opening ceremony, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang highly appreciated the initiative and efforts of the Da Nang City People's Committee and the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association in organizing the annual Da Nang Asian Film Festival, affirming the role of a regional film event, rich in identity and increasingly professional.
“The third DANAFF is held in the year Vietnam celebrates many important historical milestones, including the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country. Among the many exciting events of the festival, the program “Half a century of Vietnamese war films” with 22 typical films about the revolutionary war not only has high artistic value, but is also a vivid document about the history, national spirit and the aspiration for independence and peace of the Vietnamese people”, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang also expressed his impression when seeing DANAFF becoming more and more professional and methodical with each organization - with rich content, expanded scale, diverse award categories and artistic values that are increasingly affirmed and honored.
Notably, the effective socialization organizational model has contributed to promoting social resources, connecting creative, production, management and business entities to expand creative space in culture.
This is also the spirit clearly stated in the Party's strategic decisions, namely: Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation; Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private economic development.
“I propose that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with ministries and sectors, especially theoretical and creative training institutions, and professional social organizations such as the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association, continue to improve research capacity, strategic thinking and connectivity to shape a modern, humane, internationally integrated Vietnamese cinema without losing its national identity.

DANAFF needs to be oriented to become one of the prestigious international film festivals in Asia - Pacific, contributing to raising the cultural and creative position of Vietnam in the international arena, and being one of the important pillars for Da Nang to gradually become a UNESCO Creative City in the new era", Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang said.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said that in the context of the world facing many changes and challenges, there is a universal language that helps unite everyone, and that is the language of cinema and the art of filmmakers.
According to Ms. Audrey Azoulay: “Cinema helps us realize that culture is not trivial values, not a secondary or frivolous element, but culture is the soul that makes us human.
In Vietnam, cinema is an art form that has existed for centuries. Vietnamese cinema has a lot of evidence of the glorious and dark moments of the 20th century, and I knew that there would be a section dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's reunification.
Vietnam is not only blessed with wonderful cultural heritages, recognized by the international community through UNESCO titles, but is also building strong policies to promote the development of cultural industries. UNESCO is honored to accompany on this journey.

In the field of cinema, the new wave of Vietnam is certainly emerging and will spread strongly. More than 40 feature films have been produced each year since 2015 and domestic films now account for more than 40% of box office revenue. This shows the talent of artists, the strength of the film industry as well as the public's demand for cinema.
“Film festivals are vital in this golden age of creativity. They bring together people from all walks of life. Like Cannes, Busan or Tokyo, they allow talent to be recognised and new films to be made. They also put great places like Da Nang on the world map. UNESCO is proud to work with the relevant authorities of Viet Nam to promote the development of the national film industry,” said Audrey Azoulay.
