Startup Aehra's electric car has an impressive range, competing with electric cars from Tesla and Lucid.
Aehra is set to unveil its electric SUV with butterfly doors in late 2022, only revealing exterior images and a vision for the future. Now, the company is sharing details about the vehicle's configuration and interior.
Aside from the Lucid Air, there aren’t many electric vehicles on the market that can go more than 500 miles on a single charge, and that’s what’s keeping the Aehra in the public eye. The new battery pack in the Aehra SUV and upcoming electric sedan is the result of a partnership with Austria-based battery company Miba.
On Aehra models, the battery pack will be up to 120 kWh, larger than the 100 kWh battery pack on the Tesla Model X. The company's development goals include fast charging up to 350 kW and a maximum voltage of 925 V. Miba also plans to offer bidirectional charging, which the California state government wants to make mandatory for electric vehicles.
Aehra believes this is an opportunity to develop a battery that fits into the body structure of its vehicle instead of an off-the-shelf battery. Furthermore, the Miba battery has a system that the company confidently claims is the lightest of its kind available today.
The SUV’s total output is expected to be around 800 horsepower, the same as the sedan. Despite the high power output, Aehra says it’s not aiming to break any speed records, instead avoiding oversized batteries that would add to production costs and weight.
The SUV has a cabin that is packed with technology and is spacious enough to fit four 6-foot-1 NBA players. It also has a huge control screen that stretches across the entire dashboard, towering over the driver. Many have questioned whether such a screen would block their view while driving, but the company has yet to answer that question.
Aehra aims to start delivering cars to customers in 2025.
In the current market, there are few electric cars with a range of more than 800 km like the Lucid Air. At the end of 2022, the Mercedes EQS 450+ traveled from Ho Guom, Hanoi , to Nui Thanh, Quang Nam, a distance of 850 km and still had 1% battery left .
