Accordingly, in terms of emissions, Xiaomi requires the entire supply chain to commit to reducing emissions. Specifically, smartphone manufacturing partners must reduce emissions by an average of 5% per year by 2030 and use at least 25% renewable electricity. The goal by 2050 is for the entire supply chain to switch to 100% renewable electricity.

By the end of 2024, the carbon lifecycle of 18 key products had been assessed. The company also implemented energy-saving measures across the entire chain from offices to logistics. Prioritizing rail and sea transport alone helped reduce nearly 3,400 tons of CO₂ in the past year.

In the post-consumer phase, Xiaomi aims to recycle 38,000 tons of e-waste from 2022 to 2026, and by the end of 2024, it will have achieved nearly 96% of the target. In China, more than 1.3 million devices will be collected, while the return program will be expanded to nine international markets. More than 130,000 devices will be refurbished in 2024, a steady growth year-on-year.

At the Smart Factory, the waste recycling rate is 99.35% and it has been awarded the highest certification for zero-landfill systems by TÜV Rheinland.

At the COP29 Conference in late 2024, the company unveiled a new sustainable development strategy focusing on “core technology”. Xiaomi’s goal is not only to stop at technical progress but also to aim for technology that serves all classes of users, from the general public, the disadvantaged to the global environment.

In 2024, Xiaomi invested more than 3.3 billion USD in R&D, bringing the total number of global patents to more than 42,000. The research team accounts for nearly half of the total workforce, with about 21,000 people playing a core role in developing the “People x Car x Home” ecosystem.

Two key projects, Xiaomi Smart Factory and Xiaomi EV Factory, have been operational over the past year, applying automation, AI, and cloud-edge-end computing systems. The production line at the Smart Factory has achieved 81% automation, surpassing the industry average.
