Exports continue to grow, trade surplus of nearly 20 billion USD after 10 months

According to the latest data from the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's trade in goods in October and the first 10 months of 2025 recorded many positive signals.

Total import-export turnover of goods in October reached 81.49 billion USD, down slightly by 1.2% compared to September but still up 17.2% over the same period in 2024.

In the first 10 months, the total import-export turnover reached 762.44 billion USD, up 17.4%, of which exports increased by 16.2% and imports increased by 18.6%. The trade balance of goods continued to maintain a trade surplus of 19.56 billion USD, reflecting the stable resilience of the economy in the context of many fluctuations in global trade.

In October, export turnover reached 42.05 billion USD, down 1.5% compared to the previous month, but still increased strongly by 17.5% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the foreign-invested sector (FDI) dominated with 33.45 billion USD, up 31.8%; the domestic economic sector reached 8.6 billion USD, down 17.4%.

In the first 10 months, total export turnover reached 391 billion USD, of which the FDI sector contributed 75.9% and the domestic sector 24.1%.

Notably, 36 items had an export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 94.1% of the total value, including 7 items reaching over 10 billion USD, reflecting the focus on key commodity groups. In terms of structure, processed industrial goods dominated with 346.73 billion USD (88.7%), followed by agricultural and forestry products with 32.62 billion USD (8.3%), aquatic products with 9.33 billion USD (2.4%) and fuels and minerals with 2.32 billion USD (0.6%).

On the other hand, import turnover in October reached 39.45 billion USD, down 1% compared to the previous month but up 16.8% over the same period. In the 10 months, total import turnover reached 371.44 billion USD, up 18.6%. In terms of structure, the group of production materials continued to account for an overwhelming proportion with 348.23 billion USD (93.8%), of which machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts accounted for 52.6%; raw materials, fuels, and materials accounted for 41.2%. The group of consumer goods accounted for only 6.2% (23.21 billion USD).

Experts estimate that with the current growth momentum, total import-export turnover for the whole year of 2025 could reach over 900 billion USD, continuing to affirm Vietnam's position in the group of economies with the highest trade openness in the world .
