Very close to the river's head, the Ganh Hao River forms a tributary with the Ca Mau - Bac Lieu canal. Not far away, the river passes the head of the Luong The Tran canal and after a short distance, it no longer heads south, but goes back to the East bank, creating the Hoa Trung junction - the head of the Bay Hap River.

Ganh Hao River originates and flows through the heart of the city, creating a junction with the head of the Ca Mau - Bac Lieu canal.

Going further downstream, Ganh Hao River is the boundary between Ca Mau City (Hoa Tan, Hoa Thanh) and Dong Hai District (Bac Lieu Province) with Dam Doi District (Ca Mau Province). Ganh Hao River now has the mission of being the main river for tributaries, supplying and draining water for the fertile land with shrimp farming, forming a fairly large, strong flow, each day following 2 tidal waters, gradually growing towards the river mouth and right at the estuary it is already hundreds of meters wide.

During the 55 km journey through different lands, Ganh Hao River is not only a traffic hub, serving production but also carries the culture of the river region, creating beautiful natural scenery, entering lyrical poetry, such as the famous song "Ganh Hao Night Remembers Hoai Lang Melody" by author Vu Duc Sao Bien.

In the era of development, especially the need for road traffic, Ganh Hao River has many strategic bridges crossing, creating highlights and driving forces for the homeland of Ca Mau with many innovations such as: Ganh Hao Bridge (Ward 8, Ca Mau City), Hoa Thanh Bridge (Hoa Thanh Commune, Ca Mau City), Hoa Trung Bridge (Tan Trung Commune, Dam Doi District), Ganh Hao Bridge (Tan Thuan Commune, Dam Doi District). In the near future, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Bridge will be built to connect Ward 8 to Ward 7, Ca Mau City.

On April 19, the Ganh Hao Bridge construction investment component project was technically opened to traffic, connecting Tan Thuan commune (Dam Doi district) to Ganh Hao town (Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province) right at the mouth of Ganh Hao river flowing into the East Sea.
