Nha Trang City Women's Union at all levels: Joining hands to support orphaned and disadvantaged children

In recent times, women's associations at all levels in Nha Trang City have implemented many meaningful programs and models to help orphans and children in difficult circumstances. Thereby, helping them have the conditions to go to school and improve their lives.

Help children in difficult circumstances

Previously, Le Thi Tran Tran (born in 2013, Vinh Phuoc Ward) and Vo Le Ngoc My (born in 2015, Vinh Thanh Commune) were students in a charity class in Vinh Phuoc Ward taught by Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc (Vinh Thanh Commune). Due to family circumstances, Tran started school 3 years later than her age; My had to drop out of school 1 year before entering Ms. Duc's class. With the support of the locality, school and organizations, in the 2024-2025 school year, both students were admitted to class 3/3, Vinh Phuoc 1 Primary School, continuing to pursue their dream of studying. Knowing the situation of the two students, the Women's Union of Vinh Phuoc Ward mobilized and supported the two students with boarding meals throughout the school year with a total value of 11 million VND. Le Thi Tran Tran shared: "Thanks to the help of the union, I have the conditions to go to school, reducing expenses for my family".

This is an activity in the program "Following you to school" implemented by the Women's Union of Vinh Phuoc Ward. Each year, the association mobilizes funds to donate from 10 to 25 health insurance cards to orphans and children in difficult circumstances studying at schools: Vinh Phuoc 1 Primary School, Nguyen Khuyen Secondary School. At the same time, scholarships and gifts are awarded to encourage and help orphans overcome difficulties and study well. In 2024, the association awarded 30 scholarships (500,000 VND/scholarship) to students in difficult circumstances in the ward; coordinated with benefactors to give gifts, rice, and school supplies worth 35 million VND to children living at Anh Dao Shelter (Ninh Xuan Commune, Ninh Hoa Town).

In Phuoc Long Ward, from 2021 to present, implementing the model "Couple of loving leaves", each year, the cadres and members of the Women's Union of Residential Group 1 Phuoc Trung use their savings to raise piggy banks and contribute additional funds to support 1 child in difficult circumstances with a support level of 300,000 VND/month maintained for 1 year. In 2025, the model is supporting Le Nguyen Anh Khoi (student of grade 1/3, Phuoc Long 1 Primary School). Khoi's father has leukemia and is being treated at Cho Ray Hospital ( Ho Chi Minh City), her mother both takes care of her husband and works as a worker to earn money to support the family. Her whole family is living at her grandparents' house. Thanks to the support from the model, she has more conditions to go to school.

Diverse support activities

In order to support the care and nurturing of orphans in difficult circumstances, from 2022 to present, women's associations at all levels in the city have maintained the implementation of the "Godmother" program with many specific activities. In particular, the Women's Union of Vinh Hiep commune mobilized donors to support 1 child living with elderly grandparents, at risk of dropping out of school, in the form of giving schoolbags, clothes, shoes... with a total amount of 2 million VND/year. The Women's Union of Phuoc Hoa ward mobilized members to be godmothers for 2 children who are siblings, orphaned in the ward. At the beginning of each school year, the godmother will support the 2 children with cash and gifts with a total value of 1.2 million VND/year so that they have more conditions to go to school. The Women's Union of Tan Tien ward sponsored 1 child who had both parents. From June 2022 to December 2024, the association will support her from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND/month. In the first months of 2025, from the piggy bank fund, the association will support her with 2 million VND to cover additional study expenses...

From 2022 to present, 188 orphans in the city have been sponsored and cared for with a total amount of more than 1 billion VND. In addition, the association at all levels has also mobilized funds to award hundreds of scholarships and gifts to children in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the new school year, the end of the school year, Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day, Lunar New Year, etc.

Ms. Le Thi Bich Huyen - Vice President of the Nha Trang City Women's Union said that in recent times, all levels of the union in the city have implemented many models and programs to support children such as: Godmother; Pair of loving leaves; Poinsettia; Following you to school... In 2024 alone, all levels of the union mobilized nearly 105 million VND in cash and gifts to support 154 orphans; awarded 71 scholarships to orphans, poor and near-poor students with a total amount of more than 166 million VND along with many other gifts. In the coming time, all levels of the union will continue to implement programs to help children in difficult circumstances have the conditions to go to school and improve their lives.
