Faced with the complicated developments of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, infringement of intellectual property rights, etc., seriously affecting the legitimate rights and interests of people and businesses, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed and issued Official Dispatch 72/CD-TTg requesting ministries, branches and localities to closely coordinate in implementing synchronous solutions, launching a peak period of fighting to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights. Timely detect and strictly handle violators, including cases showing signs of moral degradation, corruption, negativity, protection and assistance to law violators.

Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also directed functional units to establish a special task force and launch a peak campaign to crack down on counterfeit goods nationwide until June 15.

According to the report of the National Steering Committee 389, since the beginning of 2025, the authorities have handled more than 34,000 violations, including more than 1,100 cases related to commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property violations. In April and May alone, the police discovered many companies producing and trading in fake milk and functional foods that imitate famous brands, with hundreds of tons. This shows that the situation of commercial fraud and counterfeit goods trading is becoming more complex and sophisticated, from traditional channels to e-commerce.

In Phu Yen , in recent months, authorities have continuously discovered many cases of trading in counterfeit goods of unknown origin. Most recently, there was a case of transporting 33 tons of various types of white sugar from Thailand, without Vietnamese sub-labels, and the packaging had signs of erasure of production and expiration dates. Or a case in Song Cau town of trading in various types of frozen foods of unknown origin, when discovered, authorities seized 134kg of food.

Obviously, this problem not only seriously affects the health of consumers, but also causes loss of state budget revenue and negatively impacts many other aspects of social life.

To make the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property rights infringement more effective in the coming time, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health to urgently submit to the Government amendments and supplements to Decree 15/2018/ND-CP of the Government detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Food Safety, to be completed this May; propose competent authorities to immediately handle a number of limitations and shortcomings of the Law on Food Safety, to be completed before June 5, and ensure submission to the National Assembly in June this year.

Press and media agencies should increase reporting on the dangers of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property rights infringement; promptly commend positive examples and good practices of units; criticize and condemn negative behaviors and irresponsible behavior that lead to consequences.

Once the entire political system gets involved, businesses and people actively participate, and there are strong enough and stricter sanctions against the production and trade of counterfeit goods, then surely the situation of commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights will be pushed back.

This is what consumers always want.
