Veterans' mark in new rural construction

Promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, war veterans in Tien Giang province have actively participated in implementing the criteria in the National Target Program on New Rural Development (NRD) in the province for the period 2011 - 2024. War veterans' associations at all levels in the province have implemented many movements and models that have brought practical results, contributing positively to the movement of joining hands to build NRD.

Veterans Association members strive to escape poverty in 2025

In early 2011, the province had 1,392 War Veterans Association members who were poor and near-poor households; from then until early 2025, 373 more households were added, bringing the total number of War Veterans Association members who were poor and near-poor households to 1,765 households. However, up to now, there are 7 poor households and 42 near-poor households remaining in the War Veterans Association, striving to escape poverty in 2025. The above figures demonstrate the efforts of the War Veterans Association at all levels in poverty reduction and improving the lives of its members.

With its prestige, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the province has coordinated with other socio -political organizations to implement solutions to entrust support for people to access loans from the Social Policy Bank through the establishment of 386 Savings and Loan Groups, with a total outstanding loan balance of more than 632 billion VND, resolving loans for 14,872 households. In addition to bank loans, the Association at all levels has established funds such as: Comrades Fund, Gratitude Fund, Revolving Capital Contribution, creating interest-free loans, etc.

Up to now, it has helped 18,718 cadres and members, especially those from poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances, increase capital to carry out production, business, and family economy.

The Association at all levels is increasingly interested in charitable activities. Organizing visits and encouraging war veterans in difficult circumstances, sharing when necessary; caring for and supporting war veterans in especially difficult circumstances, when facing natural disasters; annually donating to visit and give gifts on Tet holiday. Visiting and giving gifts to policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers... with a total amount of over 6 billion VND.

On the other hand, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the province has mobilized business members to contribute over 19 billion VND to support the "For the Poor" Fund, donate "Houses of Gratitude", "Houses of Comrades", build bridges, repair roads, donate land, donate insurance books, savings books, contribute to the construction and development of new rural areas, organize free vocational training for poor households; mobilize organizations, businesses, and individuals to sponsor the construction of 1,524 "Houses of Gratitude", "Houses of Great Unity" for members with housing difficulties, temporary houses, and dilapidated houses; support 135 houses for poor members with poor household books to borrow money to build houses; mobilize organizations and individuals to support the repair of 917 houses meeting the "3 hard" standards and support the construction of 546 houses for members to escape poverty in previous years, with a total cost of over 35 billion VND.

By 2022, the whole province will have no more war veteran households living in dilapidated or temporary houses. Up to now, there are only 3 war veteran members who are poor households and 1 near-poor household still facing housing difficulties, have received funding and are completing documents to build houses. Strive to continue to mobilize to eliminate the remaining 35 houses that do not meet the "3 hard" standards by the end of 2025.

In addition, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the province has mobilized and encouraged members who are good at production and business to join the Club "Good Production and Business Veterans" and the Association of War Veterans Enterprises to unite and encourage the promotion of the potential of war veterans in production and business development.

The provincial Association of War Veterans has coordinated with the provincial Cooperative Union and the industry to organize 804 training courses on science and technology transfer in cultivation and animal husbandry, with 14,970 members attending; organized 1,635 training courses on agricultural, forestry and fishery extension for 39,320 cadres and members at the grassroots level. Collective economic models such as cooperatives and cooperative groups owned by war veterans have been promoted well, bringing practical economic efficiency, helping members' families improve their lives and become rich legitimately.

On the other hand, some places have cooperative models linked with enterprises, creating favorable conditions for members to develop production; introducing stable jobs for 4,758 workers who are children of war veterans, former soldiers and workers. By doing well in coordination and strengthening the organization, by 2017, it was upgraded to the War Veterans Business Association and by 2025, the Provincial War Veterans Business Association. Every year, many members are recognized as "Excellent War Veterans Production and Business Members" at all levels.

In addition, war veteran members' households contribute their efforts and work with the State to build roads and irrigation works, contribute resources in money, labor, goods, and donate land to build works in communes and hamlets with traffic systems and intra-field canals built according to planning.

The movement of war veterans donating land to open roads and build public works in rural areas has been actively responded to by cadres and war veterans association members. Specifically, 310 war veterans association members have donated 156,172 m2 of land; many of them are pioneers who have donated land many times.

Along with that, the Veterans Association at the grassroots level has mobilized members to set an example in dismantling and relocating constructions and assets on land to hand over the site to the contractor for construction according to plan. In addition, cadres and members contributed more than 64,400 working days, mobilized more than 1.1 billion VND, renovated and upgraded 318 km of roads; repaired 85 dams; reinforced 102 km of flood-prevention dykes, built new and repaired and upgraded 220 bridges; supervised 341 public works in the locality.

MANY PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY

To create a new look for the roads, the Veterans Association at all levels has established and maintained regular activities of 1,004 Veterans Environmental Protection Clubs in hamlets and neighborhoods, with 23,161 participating households; 164 Veterans Environmental Protection models at the commune level; and 16 Veterans Environmental Protection models at the district level.

Veterans Association members contributed nearly 104,000 working days, participated in general cleaning, planted flowers, cut down trees that obstructed the view, collected water hyacinth, cleared the flow, and mobilized to build a "Security Light Route".

"In the past time, responding to the movement of joining hands to build new rural areas, the Associations at all levels in the province have implemented many specific projects and tasks, suitable to the actual situation of the locality and the Association's capacity. In the process of implementing the movement to build new rural areas, the Associations at all levels of War Veterans always uphold the spirit of solidarity and promote the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers of the members. Through the implementation of the National Target Program on building new rural areas in the province for the period 2011 - 2024, it has contributed to enhancing the role of cadres and members and building a strong Association of War Veterans.

In the "Movement of War Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and do good business", the Association has implemented many solutions so that by the end of August 2025, the Provincial War Veterans Association will basically have no poor or near-poor households; no more dilapidated or temporary houses; strive to eliminate all houses that do not meet the "3 hard" standards. Strive to achieve 70% or more of war veteran households to have a good and rich standard of living".

100% of war veteran households use clean water, participate in production according to the ecological technology model of "growing flowers on the field banks", use pits to treat pesticide bags to limit the use of pesticides, contributing to improving the environment. The Association mobilizes war veteran members to respond to environmental protection awareness, clean up and create a landscape for the living environment, and mobilize members and people to plant trees around their houses and along rural roads.

Implementing the coordination regulations between the Provincial Police and the Provincial Association of War Veterans, since 2014, the Association has coordinated to propagate and mobilize members of the War Veterans Association and people to carry out the movement "All people protect national security"; prevent and combat crimes, social evils, maintain political security, social order and safety, traffic safety; fire prevention and fighting; the program "1 increase 4 reductions"; Month of action to prevent and combat drugs and prostitution; organize the Police Forum to listen to people's opinions... over 8,700 meetings, with more than 210,200 people and war veterans attending.

Participated in the rehearsal of the model of "Self-managed inter-family groups" on security and order; crime prevention and control... The Association at all levels provided the Police with more than 7,000 valuable pieces of information on security and order; coordinated and consolidated 234 Self-managed People's Groups and successfully reconciled more than 5,300 conflicts among the people.

Coordinate with the Traffic Safety Committee at the same level to organize the Signing Ceremony of coordination to implement the Campaign "Veterans of Tien Giang province participate in maintaining traffic order and safety and building traffic culture" for the period 2018 - 2023.

In particular, during the Covid-19 outbreak, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the province has promoted and mobilized people to participate and contribute to building the great national unity bloc in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Strengthening propaganda and mobilizing core members of the Association of War Veterans to actively participate in responding to drought, saltwater intrusion, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, storms, ensuring social security and security, order and safety in the area.

The practical work in the movement to build new rural areas of the War Veterans Association at all levels in the province has had a widespread effect, creating a strong change in awareness in the community, contributing to the successful implementation of the goal of building a new rural province.
