According to the records at the scene, the landslide created two dangerous spots: The first landslide at Mr. Le Van Vui's house was large in scale with a length of 42 m, a width of 10.5 m and a height of 4 m. The entire block of land collapsed into canal 28, completely blocking people's motorbike travel and agricultural product transportation. The second crack stretched from Mr. Truong Minh Dung's house to Mr. Nguyen Van Tac's house with a length of 46.5 m. The crack has spread to 1/3 of the asphalt road and is at high risk of landslides in the coming time.

Landslides cut off the road. |
Notably, these two landslides were both located on the newly built asphalt road of Team 1, Hau Vinh Hamlet, Hau Thanh Commune, causing great damage to infrastructure. According to Ms. Le Thi Ti (born in 1954), a resident living in the landslide area, she worriedly said: "Not only does it affect traffic, the landslide situation also causes panic among the people."
Mr. Nguyen Van Vui, a resident living near the landslide site, shared: "The landslide has separated Hau Thanh commune and Hoa Khanh commune, making it impossible for people to travel. Especially, preparing for the flood season, when the water rises, this entire area will be heavily flooded."
According to analysis by some local people, the cause of the landslide was due to strong water flow, continuous erosion of the bank of canal 28 and the activities of wave-creating barges causing the collapse to form a "frog jaw".
In particular, the affected area is not only a traffic route, but also a dike protecting nearly 30 hectares of fruit gardens of people in Team 1, Hau Vinh Hamlet, Hau Thanh Commune and more than 40 hectares of gardens of people in Hoa Khanh Commune. This means that if not promptly remedied, the damage will spread to many other areas.

Failure to promptly remedy the landslide will directly affect the fruit gardens of hundreds of households. |
Faced with this serious landslide situation, the local government has been proactive in overcoming it. Vice Chairman of Hau Thanh Commune People's Committee Tran Huu Thanh said that the locality had immediately fenced off the dangerous area after the landslide occurred. In addition, the commune has sent an urgent document to Cai Be District People's Committee and Cai Be District Department of Agriculture and Environment requesting financial support for emergency repairs.
"If not promptly remedied, the landslide will seriously affect
the economy as well as the transportation of agricultural products and people's travel. Especially when the rainy and stormy season is coming, we are worried that we will not be able to protect the dike system," Mr. Tran Huu Thanh emphasized.
Immediate handling and repair of this landslide is important in maintaining the traffic route of Hau Thanh commune, avoiding economic damage and loss of people's lives.
Local people need timely support from authorities to overcome landslides before the rainy season, to avoid widespread landslides.
