Continue to advise Vietnamese citizens not to listen to the call for 'easy work, high salary'

On the afternoon of May 29, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in response to a reporter's question about the recent news report by the British BBC about the illegal transportation of people, bringing illegal Vietnamese immigrants to coastal towns in the UK by going to Russia, walking in the forest, hiding in a container truck and boarding a ship to the UK, asking for comments on this information, what efforts Vietnam has made to cooperate with other countries in combating illegal immigration and recommendations for Vietnamese people, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: We have also known about the information as the reporter just mentioned and are checking this information".

The spokesperson said the Vietnamese Government advocates promoting safe and orderly legal migration, while resolutely combating illegal migration, people smuggling and human trafficking.

Vietnam is currently making efforts to implement the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) according to the plan issued by the Prime Minister on March 20, 2020, to create a transparent migration environment and protect the legitimate rights and interests of migrants.

Vietnam has been promoting cooperation with countries and organizations, including the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), to prevent, detect, investigate, and handle illegal migration networks, in accordance with the law.

Vietnam is ready to cooperate with relevant countries and parties, in accordance with signed cooperation frameworks, international law and international practices, on the principle of timely protecting the legitimate rights and interests of migrants and respecting their dignity.

"We once again recommend that Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese people working abroad comply with the law and not listen to calls such as easy work, high salary," the spokesperson emphasized.

“Because we see that in the process of sending Vietnamese people to work abroad, there is a reality that Vietnamese people flee to reside and work illegally. Besides, there are also many cases of citizens being defrauded by illegal foreign labor brokers, not following the contract, thereby creating a situation where workers are exploited and forced to work abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry's functional units related to citizen protection, once again recommends that Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese workers going abroad comply with the provisions of the law," said Ms. Hang.
