Yen Duong still faces many difficulties in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

BBK - Yen Duong Commune (Ba Be) is a locality that suffered heavy damage due to floods and landslides on the evening of May 17 and early morning of May 18. Although the government and people have made every effort, terrain conditions, lack of resources and the prolonged impact of natural disasters have made the recovery process slower than expected.

A large amount of rock and soil from the mountain top poured into Phieng Kham village, burying many areas of people's cultivated land, making it very difficult to recover.
Secretary of Yen Duong Commune Party Committee Vi Van Huu.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Yen Duong commune, the heavy rain and flood caused landslides on many inter-village roads, destroyed canals, collapsed and damaged 59 houses, affecting the production of hundreds of households. More than 50 hectares of rice, corn, cassava and other perennial crops were buried or lost; many areas of fish ponds and livestock barns were swept away. The estimated damage was about 25 billion VND. Many households, especially in highland villages such as Phieng Kham, Phieng Phang... had to live temporarily in difficult conditions.

Many agricultural land plots along the stream have been buried, making it difficult to determine the boundaries of each plot of land.

According to Mr. Trieu Xuan Tai, Head of Phieng Kham village, immediately after the flash flood caused heavy damage to people and property, the authorities at all levels promptly came to encourage, share and help the people to overcome. Up to this point, the households that lost their houses and properties are gradually stabilizing their lives. However, the area of land and crops that were buried or washed away cannot be repaired. Many poor and near-poor households, who were already facing difficulties, are now facing even more difficulties after losing their properties and means of production, facing the risk of falling back into poverty.

A long landslide from the top of the hill still poses a risk of landslide if heavy rain occurs.

Mr. Dang Hanh Dung, Phieng Phang village, Yen Duong commune said: "My family suffered heavy damage after the heavy rain on the evening of May 17, all salmon and sturgeon in more than 10 fish tanks were swept away by floodwaters. Mud from the mountains flooded down and filled all the fish tanks, causing an estimated loss of more than 1.2 billion VND. Although the local government, organizations, and philanthropists of the district and province have come to support and help, we have only been able to overcome a small part. Currently, we are continuing to borrow more funds to hire an excavator to clean up mud, repair the water system, and clean the tanks to continue to restore fish farming in the coming time."

The locality has repaired water pipes so that people have water for daily use and continue to overcome the consequences of the flood.

According to Mr. Vi Van Huu, Secretary of the Yen Duong Commune Party Committee: Although the commune government has proactively reviewed, counted the damage, and prepared documents to propose support from all levels, due to the large total damage and limited support resources, the restoration of infrastructure and livelihoods for the people is very slow. In particular, many important traffic and irrigation works serving production have not been able to be repaired, seriously affecting the lives and planting plans of the people in the next crop.

Yen Duong Commune Party Secretary Vi Van Huu expressed his wish to receive more help from the State so that Yen Duong people can soon overcome difficulties.

Faced with the above situation, Yen Duong commune is currently mobilizing local labor resources in the community to support the cleaning and temporary repair of roads, restoration of production land, and reconstruction of houses. However, to completely overcome the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize the long-term lives of the people, the locality is in great need of timely support from superiors in terms of funding, materials, seedlings, and resources to invest in essential infrastructure works.

In recent times, local forces have spent a lot of time and effort to support affected and damaged households.

It can be seen that overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in Yen Duong is not only an immediate task but also a long-term task, associated with the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and local socio -economic development. Therefore, Yen Duong is in dire need of the cooperation of all levels, sectors, organizations and the community to overcome this difficult period, gradually stabilizing people's lives./.
