Bird's nest 13,000 VND/jar sold by TikToker Quyen Leo Daily is being questioned about its quality

35% bird's nest for just over 13,000 VND/jar?

The online community has recently been buzzing about bird's nest products being sold at "surprisingly cheap" prices by the famous TikToker couple Quyen Leo Daily - real names La Quoc Quyen and Nguyen Lan Anh. This duo owns a TikTok channel with more than 4.6 million followers.

One of the best-selling products in recent livestream sessions is ready-to-eat bird's nest with a controversial price.

According to the advertisement from Quyen Leo and his wife, the "ready-to-eat fresh bird's nest" product with a capacity of 70ml has a bird's nest content of up to 35%, sold in a combo of 50 bottles for 658,000 VND - equivalent to just over 13,000 VND/bottle.

In addition, some other combos such as 20 bottles/500,000 VND, or 30 bottles/468,000 VND also help the average price fluctuate from only 15,000 - 25,000 VND/bottle.

Compared to the market level (of ready-made bird's nest products in general), this price is much cheaper. For example, the bird's nest drink product of a long-standing brand in Khanh Hoa has a listed price of about 338,000 VND/box of 8 bottles, or more than 42,000 VND/bottle (same capacity of 70ml) with a declared bird's nest ratio of 21%.

Many other products on the market also have prices ranging from 30,000 - 40,000 VND/bottle with a ratio of 21-35% bird's nest.

Consumers speak out, questioning quality

On social media, some consumers said they bought bird's nest from Quyen Leo Daily's livestream because they were curious about the surprisingly low price.

However, when used, the product had a strange smell, a sour taste, and the apple pieces in the jar changed color even though the expiration date was still long. Another user reported that after contacting to complain about the quality, they received no response and were then blocked from contacting.

In response to consumer doubts, in a livestream session in October 2024, Mr. La Quoc Quyen (Quyen Leo) affirmed: "The product has been tested, 35% standard bird's nest, World Bird's Nest standard product, committed to quality".

According to this TikToker, with a bird's nest ratio of 35%, each jar of bird's nest will have 3-4g of fresh broken bird's nest. Consumers wonder if the label must state the exact number, advertising 3-4g of fresh broken bird's nest is a very different number. "So those who are lucky will buy a 4g jar of bird's nest, and those who are unlucky will buy a 3g jar of bird's nest?" - a user asked.

According to the information on the packaging, these products belong to the brand The Gioi Yen Sao - Nguyen Thuy, produced by The Gioi Yen Sao Group Investment Joint Stock Company in Ben Cat City ( Binh Duong ).

The legal representative is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - also the owner of Thuy The Gioi Yen Sao business and The Gioi Yen Sao Group Company Limited (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City). Previously, in many sales sessions, Ms. Thuy also joined TikToker Quyen Leo Daily to sell products.

However, a few days before consumer doubts began to appear about the quality of the "surprisingly cheap" pre-cooked bird's nest jar product, on TikTok shop the brand changed from the bird's nest jar to pure self-cooked bird's nest, not selling pre-cooked bird's nest products.

Currently, all ready-to-eat bird's nest products have been removed from the brand's TikTok shop. Some previous promotional videos on Quyen Leo Daily's TikTok channel are also no longer available.

Previously, some other TikTokers were also involved in scandals with bird's nest products. Typically, TikToker Hang Du Muc was criticized for selling bird's nest for more than 30,000 VND/bottle and was also questioned about the actual quality.

In a recent conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Mr. Phan Viet Hung - CEO of Vietnam Bird's Nest Company - also stated that in our country's market, the situation of fake and poor quality bird's nests is rampant, causing serious confusion for consumers and directly affecting the reputation and value of genuine bird's nests, as well as the long-term development of the industry.

"A bird's nest product advertised by a famous TikToker with a 30% bird's nest content but priced at only 15,000 VND/bottle is a typical example of irregularity and fraud.

We propose to consider and move towards mandatory traceability for all bird's nest products in the Vietnamese market. This is an urgent solution to protect consumers and build a transparent bird's nest market," Mr. Hung cited.

There is currently no official response from the relevant parties regarding the incident related to this product.

Who is TikToker Quyen Leo Daily?

The TikTok channel Quyen Leo Daily, founded by Mr. La Quoc Quyen and Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh, began attracting attention in 2019 by sharing videos about family life, especially the adorable moments of their first daughter - Banh Bao.

These contents quickly spread on social media, helping their TikTok channel attract millions of views and followers.

Initially, the TikTok channel was created as a "family diary" to record moments in daily life. However, thanks to its close and lovely content, the channel quickly became prominent on the TikTok platform.

By May 2023, the couple started trying their hand at livestream sales sessions on TikTok.

Their first livestream session generated a revenue of 4.5 billion VND, marking the beginning of a series of successes in the online sales field. Since then, they have continued to organize livestream sessions lasting dozens of hours, with impressive revenue, such as the session reaching 75 billion VND in March 2024 and the session reaching 100 billion VND in May 2024.

Previously, this TikToker was also involved in a scandal about gifts during live sessions. In June 2024, Quyen Leo Daily announced that he would give away 100 random tablets to live viewers when they reached different "view" milestones. After receiving the gifts, some recipients "exposed" them because the tablets were of poor quality and almost unusable.
