Meanwhile, the Israeli army said five of its soldiers were injured in a clash that took place during an operation to arrest members of an armed group in the area.
The incident occurred in Beit Jinn and quickly escalated into one of the bloodiest attacks since the overthrow of former President Bashar al-Assad a year ago. Since then, Israel has carried out regular strikes in southern Syria, saying it is preventing armed groups from reaching the border area.

The Israeli military said its forces were attacked during a nighttime operation to arrest suspects from a group it identified as Jaama Islamiya. The raid was described as part of a regular series of operations in the area in recent months.
Israel said it responded with fire and air support, and confirmed three soldiers were seriously wounded. “A number of terrorists were killed,” the statement said.
Israel accused the suspects of being involved in military activities, including planting improvised explosive devices and “planning future attacks on Israel, including rocket fire.”
The attack killed 10 people and injured dozens, including two children, the health director of the rural Damascus province said.
Israeli forces shelled Beit Jinn at 3:40 a.m. before entering the village. Local residents confronted Israeli forces, leading to “violent clashes.” A local official and the Syrian army said Israel had arrested two people.
Israel has long intervened militarily in Syria with the stated goal of protecting the Druze minority, notably during violence in Sweida province in July between Sunni Bedouin fighters and government forces confronting Druze groups.
