On June 3, in Hanoi , the National Press Awards Council opened the final round of the 19th National Press Awards - 2024.
In his opening speech, Party Central Committee member, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh - Chairman of the Final Jury emphasized that this is the first year of implementing the revised National Press Awards Charter, in which two new categories were included in the judging process: Multimedia Journalism and Creative Journalism. The number of entries to the award reached an all-time high of 1,970 entries. Through evaluation and selection, 183 entries from 13 categories were selected for the final round.
According to comrade Le Quoc Minh, the entries have closely followed major topics from politics , economics, culture, society, security, defense and aspects of life in 2024. The press has promptly and vividly reflected major events and important issues of the country with prominent topics such as: Efforts to implement the socio-economic development plan in 2024, major issues such as digital transformation, green transformation, green economic development...
In particular, the process of streamlining the apparatus to bring the country into a new era, institutional reform, procedural reform, and administrative unit arrangement; the process of Party building and rectification; inspection, supervision, and control of power associated with the fight against corruption, waste, and negativity; the fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints; and the promotion of the spirit of great national unity are mentioned in many works.
Hot social issues such as the damage from Typhoon Yagi; deforestation, overexploitation of mineral resources, water pollution; the destruction of smuggled and counterfeit goods; the problem of driving tests; the Thich Minh Tue phenomenon; human trafficking and the darkness in the shelter... are also reflected.
In addition, many entries are about good people and good deeds such as: Portrait of a young female doctor, blind students, female teachers in mountainous areas, party cell secretaries in remote villages... with noble, convincing and touching gestures.
Many press agencies have innovated, approached modern journalism technology, developed multi-platform, multimedia journalism and creative forms of journalism to increase public appeal and accelerate digital transformation in the field of journalism and media.
In addition to central press agencies, some local newspapers and radio stations also changed the way they selected topics and themes and implemented them in new and modern ways, which were highly appreciated by the Preliminary Council for both quality and form of expression.
Regarding the preliminary round, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that the 2024 National Press Award received positive responses from 17 Inter-Associations and 29 affiliated Associations, especially 59 Journalists Associations of provinces and cities. There were 156 works by authors who were not members of the Vietnam Journalists Association.
Entering the final round are 21 news, articles, interviews (printed newspapers); 10 editorials, comments, and essays (printed newspapers); 15 reports, investigative reports, journalistic notes, and notes (printed newspapers); 10 press photos (including single photos, photo groups, photo reports; 9 news, articles, interviews, comments, and essays (radio); 19 radio programs, talk shows, reports, documentary reports, and investigative reports (radio); 20 news, reports (television); 10 commentaries, essays, exchanges, and discussions (television); 15 documentaries, television reports; 22 news, articles, interviews, comments, essays, talks, and online exchanges (electronic newspapers); 16 reports, investigative reports, journalistic notes, and notes (electronic newspapers); 10 multimedia press works; 6 creative press works.
The final jury will select works that are outstanding in both content and form, addressing truly important issues of the country, ensuring political-ideological values, orientation, honesty, having positive and strong social impacts, worthy of the National Press Award.
The 19th National Press Awards Ceremony - 2024 is scheduled to take place on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
