Millerntor tunnel, Rajko Mitic tunnel and especially Veltins Arena tunnel - where Euro 2024 matches are being held - are designed in a strange and unique way. Veltins Arena is where Ronaldo played and the upcoming round of 16 match between England and Slovakia.
Veltins Arena (also known as Arena AufSchalke) in Gelsenkirchen, home of Schalke 04, has a more modest capacity of 50,000 seats. In the Euro 2024 group stage, Veltins Arena hosted three matches: Serbia - England, Spain - Italy and Georgia - Portugal. According to the organizers' schedule, the match between England and Slovakia in the round of 16 at 11pm on June 30 will be the last match at EURO held at this stadium. Photo: Schalke 04.
The unique feature of the stadium, which was inaugurated in August 2001, is the tunnel that leads the players to the field. The tunnel of the Veltins Arena reminds many people of a cave leading into a mine. This is a creative idea for the design of the home stadium of Schalke 04 because the city of Gelsenkirchen is a famous mining area in Germany. In the past, Gelsenkirchen was also called "the city of 1,000 fires" because there were many gas pipes used in mining. Photo: Schalke 04.
Most recently, superstar Ronaldo walked down the tunnel at Veltins Arena, after the final match of Group F between Portugal and Georgia. Notably, Veltins Arena was also the venue for the 2003-2004 Champions League final, when Porto won the championship. Photo: UEFA.
Rajko Mitic Stadium Tunnel. This is the home stadium of Red Star Belgrade located in the capital Belgrade (Serbia) with a capacity of over 55,000 people and is known as one of the best stadiums in the country on the Balkan peninsula. Photo: Rajko Mitic.
The special feature of Marakana comes from the tunnel area for players. Unlike modern stadiums with spacious and clean spaces, Marakana's tunnel is designed to look like an abandoned subway station. Photo: Rajko Mitic, SUN.
The walls are covered with graffiti, and there are even police officers on both sides, creating a suffocating feeling for every visiting team. It will take the players more than a minute to walk out of the deep tunnel at Marakana Stadium. Photo: Rajko Mitic.
Sometimes, riot police appeared on both sides, making the atmosphere in the tunnel of Rajko Mitic stadium to be pushed to the peak. Perhaps, all the away team players just wanted to escape the terrible tunnel of Rajko Mitic stadium as quickly as possible to step out to play. Photo: Rajko Mitic, Youtube.
Millerntor tunnel. In 2016, St. Pauli FC collaborated with the design team of Under Armour (a sports brand from the US) to redecorate the tunnel of Millerntor stadium. Photo: Millerntor/Adam.
The new tunnel at Millerntor Stadium has a creepy design with many strange drawings and lines of writing on the walls. This tunnel also uses a red lighting system to create a "hellish" feeling. Photo: Millerntor.
The spookiness of the details painted on the wall increases significantly after being illuminated by red lights. This is like the perfect combination to create a scary feature for the Millerntor tunnel. Photo: Millerntor.
