A strawberry costs a whopping 500,000 VND, still cheaper than the price of eggs in the US

A store in the US is causing a stir by selling a strawberry for $19.99. Some people criticize this expensive price, while many still want to try it and say it's 'cheaper than eggs'.

According to Fox News, an organic food store in Los Angeles has recently become famous for its new product with an extremely expensive price: a strawberry for $19.99 (more than 500,000 VND).

The strawberries come from the Elly Amai brand, hand-picked and air-shipped from Kyoto, Japan to the Erewhon grocery store in Los Angeles, USA. This strawberry season only lasts from December to June.

The Erewhon store owner confirmed to Fox News Digital that the strawberries are picked at their "peak ripeness" and then on shelves within 24 to 48 hours.

These are high-quality strawberries in Japan and are popular for not having any sour or astringent taste. "These strawberries are organic, accounting for only 0.002% of Japan's production," the shop owner said.

Several Californians have taken to their TikTok accounts to document their experiences trying the dish.

"I can't stop thinking about how much of my life I would have to trade to eat this special strawberry, but look how cute it is," shared Lily, a popular TikTok user.

Ms Lily also informed that each strawberry will be grown in Kyoto for 7 years to have "perfect symmetry, brilliant color and special size". The strawberries are commented to be "incredibly fragrant" and delicious.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Lily said she understood it was "a ridiculous price, but once you experience it, it's fun."

Another user with the account @alfieee467 commented: "Still cheaper than the price of eggs." The comment mentioned that the egg supply in the US is also falling into crisis, leading to escalating egg prices.

According to the US consumer price index report, egg prices in this country have been increasing at a record rate in recent months, currently fluctuating at an average of 4.95 USD/12-egg tray. For eggs from organic or free-range chickens, the price is up to 18.99 USD/12 tray (nearly 500,000 VND).

Meanwhile, some consumers have called the expensive strawberry a "social experiment" and criticized those who spent before the craze.
