Green Development: Not a Slogan, but a Vital Commitment
The story of green development at TKV starts with seemingly small things: Cleaning water, keeping waste dumps green, and restoring barren mine land. In particular, TKV Environment Company Limited plays the role of "ecological gatekeeper" of the coal industry. Every year, this unit operates 45 mine wastewater treatment stations, ensuring that more than 80 million m3 of water is cleaned before returning to nature.
Not only stopping at treatment, the unit is also creating a new ecosystem for mining areas with projects such as tree planting, anti-erosion embankments, landscape improvement in Cam Pha - Hon Gai area, or greening waste disposal areas that were once considered environmental "hot spots". In 2025, 13 environmental projects with a total capital of more than 176 billion VND are being and will be completed, not only helping to reduce pollution but also contributing to building a safe living space, in harmony between exploitation and conservation.
Nui Beo Coal – The turning point from "black" to "green"
In that journey, Nui Beo Coal Joint Stock Company is considered a symbol of transformation. Since 2019, this unit has boldly closed the open-pit mine to switch to underground mining - a decision that requires courage and long-term vision. Because behind it is not only the problem of technology or productivity, but also the commitment to minimize the impact on the environment and the community.
Nui Beo Coal is re-greening the lands that were once stripped bare by mining. Every year, thousands of new trees are planted on waste dumps and old mining areas. Notably, to date, the Company has re-greened nearly 200 hectares of vacant land. Trees have revived, the soil has been restored, and the surrounding climate has become cooler. This is not just "regenerating nature", but also the way TKV is re-creating trust in a clean - humane - responsible industry.
Green Development: Not a Slogan, but a Vital Commitment
Implementing the Project of planting 1 billion trees under the direction of the Prime Minister, TKV has planted an average of 150,000 - 200,000 trees each year, mainly in Quang Ninh - the "coal capital" of the country. Up to now, more than 2 million trees have taken root in the mining area, of which in 2025 alone, it is expected to plant an additional 1.1 million trees on an area of more than 230 hectares.
After big storms, many areas of trees were destroyed, but the miners were not discouraged. They continued to replant and re-green the land because they believed that: "each sprout is a promise for the future". That is how TKV persistently continues the green journey - not with words, but with visible results.
Responsibility, transparency and innovation for the environment
TKV General Director Vu Anh Tuan once shared: "Environmental protection is not a parallel task, but a prerequisite for development." That statement has become a guiding principle for all activities of the group. Waste, exhaust gas, and wastewater control systems are invested synchronously; advanced treatment technology projects are widely applied.
In 2025, TKV plans to treat more than 160 million cubic meters of wastewater, collect and thoroughly treat 3,800 tons of hazardous waste, and spend more than VND1,500 billion on environmental protection programs, greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change adaptation. These figures not only demonstrate responsibility, but are also a measure of a transparent, long-term and visionary development strategy.
Environmental protection is no longer the sole responsibility of technical departments, but has become part of the culture of TKV employees. Each employee is aware that their work – whether in the mine, on the waste dump or in the office – contributes to shaping the Group’s green future.
The green journey continues
From old coal mines, treated water streams, and young trees growing after storms, TKV is continuing to write the story of "greening" with the hands of miners. They are not only exploiting resources, but also opening up new values: the balance between growth and the environment, between today and tomorrow.
For TKV, "green" is not a destination but a journey. A persistent journey, requiring faith, knowledge and love for mother earth, where each square meter of revival is a testament to the aspiration for harmonious development between humans and nature.
