  • Project 8 Summary Conference: Promoting Gender Equality in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Regions

Ca Mau province is strengthening its communication efforts, tailored to local characteristics, through training sessions, branch and group meetings, competitions, events, and communication campaigns. This helps people easily access information and better understand the rights and equal roles of men and women in the family and in society.

The Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union conducted training on gender equality knowledge in the areas implementing Project 8.

Ms. Nguyen Kieu Nhi, Vice President of the Women's Union of Khanh Hung commune, shared: "We integrate gender equality awareness into branch meetings and community communication activities; we provide many specific and relatable examples so that people can easily understand and remember. As a result, people's awareness and behavior are gradually changing in a positive direction."

Thanks to a shift in awareness, many ethnic minority women have boldly participated in social activities and adopted suitable livelihood models to increase their income and improve their lives. Ms. Quách Thị Kim Luông, Head of the Women's Association in Kinh Đứng B hamlet, Khánh Hưng commune, said: “Thanks to timely propaganda and support, Khmer ethnic minority women in the locality know how to do business, are more confident in communication, have a voice in their families, and actively participate in association and organization movements.”

Mr. Pham Minh Noi participated in a training course to enhance community communication skills on gender equality.

Notably, not only women but also many men have changed their perceptions, willing to share roles in the family. Mr. Pham Minh Noi, from Duong Dao hamlet, Ho Thi Ky commune, confided: “Before, I thought housework was women's work. Now, after being educated, I understand that wives also work hard like me. When husbands share housework, the couple is harmonious, and the family's finances improve.”

Currently, Ca Mau has 24 communes with 97 hamlets where ethnic minorities are concentrated, participating in Project 8. Significant changes in people's awareness and actions are contributing to building happy families, strengthening community solidarity, and promoting socio-economic development in the locality.
