On May 1, the Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held a ceremony to welcome the scientific research ship Academician Oparin, conducting a survey trip in the East Sea.
This is the 9th time scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences (Far Eastern Branch) have conducted a survey in the southern sea of Vietnam.
Over the course of nearly a month, the survey team will conduct field sampling in coastal and deep sea areas in the southern waters of Vietnam, with agreed stations and research points.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Viet Ha - Director of the Institute of Oceanography - said that the 9th survey trip once again tightened joint research activities between Vietnamese and Russian scientists and scientists from the two academies.
"We are well aware of the important role of international cooperation, contributing to improving the capacity, research experience and activities of marine science of the Institute of Oceanography in particular and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in general. We hope that scientists from both countries will successfully complete this survey and obtain valuable scientific results," said Ms. Ha.

It is known that this survey trip aims to update and supplement data on biodiversity, environmental quality and marine biological resources, and collect marine and environmental samples to serve biochemical and microbiological research and evaluate the potential of biological compounds from the sea.
Research teams will focus on analyzing factors related to marine pollution, the presence and accumulation of microplastics, persistent organic compounds, and developing remote sensing data for environmental and aquaculture monitoring.
The marine research vessel Academician Oparin is one of the specialized research vessels on biochemistry and biodiversity of the Russian Federation.
The ship is 75.5m long and has a capacity of 2,441 tons. It can go on long sea trips and has 5 laboratories.
Oparin is also equipped with many modern devices to help dive in the sea and collect samples in deep sea areas.
