Coach Erik Ten Hag was just appointed head coach of Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week, right after the news that Mr. Xabi Alonso will move to lead Real Madrid.

The move marks the Dutchman's first managerial role since his acrimonious departure from Manchester United, where he was sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim at the start of the season.

Now, coach Ten Hag is focusing on the upcoming summer transfer window with the goal of building the Leverkusen squad to his liking. According to sources from the German newspaper Kicker , the Dutch coach has identified Antony and Alejandro Garnacho as two potential targets to strengthen the team. This could be a replacement for Florian Wirtz.

The newspaper said both players are being discussed internally at Leverkusen, with Antony's deal said to have a higher chance of success.

Antony, who was brought to Man United from Ajax by Ten Hag himself in 2022, spent the second half of the 2024-2025 season on loan at Real Betis, where he found impressive form with 9 goals and 5 assists.

However, the Brazilian's future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, and Leverkusen are ready to step in if he decides to leave.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho also looks set to leave Man United this summer. Tensions between the Argentina international and manager Ruben Amorim have escalated after Garnacho criticised his benching in the Europa League final (1-0 defeat to Tottenham).

The 20-year-old later admitted it had been a "bad" season for the club and was dropped from the squad for the final game of the season. Garnacho's girlfriend also hinted at his departure with a message on social media.

The sale of Garnacho, an academy product, would be a pure profit for Man United under Financial Fair Play rules.

With Ten Hag knowing both Antony and Garnacho well, their reunion at Bayer Leverkusen is seen as a notable possibility in the next transfer window.
