On the morning of May 6, the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance announced the socio-economic situation report for April and the first 4 months of 2025.
Processing and manufacturing industry breaks through to increase by 10.8%
The report shows that industrial production in April continued its positive growth trend. The industrial production index for the whole industry in the month is estimated to increase by 1.4% over the previous month and by 8.9% over the same period last year. In the first 4 months of 2025, the industrial production index for the whole industry increased by 8.4% over the same period last year.

Accordingly, the index of industrial production (IIP) for the entire industry in April 2025 is estimated to increase by 1.4% over the previous month and by 8.9% over the same period last year. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.8% over the same period last year; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 7.6%; electricity production and distribution increased by 4.6%; the mining industry alone decreased by 4.2%.
In the first four months of 2025, IIP is estimated to increase by 8.4% over the same period last year (increased by 6.3% in the same period in 2024). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.1% (increased by 6.5% in the same period in 2024), contributing 8.5 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 5.1% (increased by 13.0% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.5 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 10.2% (increased by 6.0% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points; the mining industry decreased by 4.5% (increased by 4.1% in the same period in 2024), causing a decrease of 0.7 percentage points.
Notably, the industrial production index in the first 4 months of 2025 of some key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year: Production of motor vehicles increased by 35.1%; production of leather and related products increased by 16.7%; production of rubber and plastic products increased by 16.4%; production of garments increased by 15.7%; wood processing and production of products from wood, bamboo, rattan, etc. increased by 15.2%; production of coke and refined petroleum products increased by 14.1%; textiles increased by 10.5%; production of products from prefabricated metal (except machinery and equipment) increased by 10.0%; production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 9.8%; food processing increased by 9.1%; production of chemicals and chemical products increased by 6.0%; Production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased by 5.1%.
On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries decreased: Crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 10.9%; electrical equipment production decreased by 6.2%; beverage production decreased by 0.1%.
Industrial production index increased in 62 localities
The report noted that the industrial production index in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in 62 localities, with Ba Ria - Vung Tau province alone decreasing by 3.2%. Some localities had a fairly high IIP index thanks to the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry increased strongly.
On the contrary, some localities have low or decreasing IIP index due to low or decreasing growth in processing and manufacturing industry; mining industry and electricity production and distribution industry.
In addition, some key industrial products in the first 4 months of 2025 increased compared to the same period last year: Automobiles increased by 76.9%; televisions increased by 27.7%; LPG increased by 23.2%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 18.5%; natural fiber woven fabrics increased by 16.6%; casual clothes increased by 15.0%; leather shoes and sandals increased by 9.8%; rolled steel increased by 9.4%; steel bars and angle steel increased by 9.3%; cement increased by 9.2%; aquatic feed increased by 8.4%. On the contrary, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: Gaseous natural gas decreased by 14.0%; crude oil decreased by 7.6%.
With the results of industrial production in the first 4 months continuing the positive growth trend, according to the Department of Industry ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), it can be seen that with the flexible, creative and effective management of ministries, branches, including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, local authorities at all levels, along with dynamism, sensitivity, and facing difficulties, have made efforts to promote support for industrial development in each locality.
Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is also actively coordinating with ministries and branches to implement many solutions to encourage businesses to expand investment, calling on large corporations and multinational corporations to invest in key national projects.
“ The authorities are urgently implementing major infrastructure projects on national railways and national highways, including contributions from the industrial sector to meet the requirements of technology, manufacturing, and raw materials for these projects. To meet the requirements of industrial production growth, ensuring energy is always a top priority,” said the leader of the Department of Industry .
Sharing more, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that in order to concretize the target of double-digit growth in industrial production, the Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to effectively implement the working program with localities and the existing business support program. Thereby, to promote the growth momentum of industries in key economic regions, creating a driving force to continue promoting industrial growth momentum nationwide.
The report of the General Statistics Office also mentioned that the number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of April 1, 2025 increased by 0.7% compared to the same period last month and increased by 5.1% compared to the same period last year. In which, the corresponding rate of state-owned enterprises remained unchanged compared to the previous month and increased by 0.5% compared to the same period last year; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 0.8% and increased by 5.9%; non-state enterprises increased by 0.8% and increased by 3.9%. The number of employees working in mining enterprises remained unchanged compared to the same period last month and decreased by 0.3% compared to the same period last year; the number of employees in the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 0.8% and 5.5%; the production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased unchanged and 0.2%... |
